Hello, everyone!
Many of you may not have heard of me, but I have been one of the administrators of this place for a while. Until today, that is, after almost eight years of having a red name. The decision has been made some time ago, but I did not find the time to write up a nice post for the News Board, ironically (thanks, Breath of the Wild).
That is already an example for the main reason why I'm quitting: I have not really been a very active staff member for the last couple of years at least, neither here nor on the main site. I did the odd administrative job such as name changing, doing some maintenance work on the server and taking part in staff discussions, but there have been periods spanning consecutive weeks in which I did not even log in to MFGG once.
I used to treat this as a temporary situation, telling you and myself, that I'm prioritizing university and work, but this assumption was quite optimistic. Graduating and having a job means you have to be a lot more selective about what you do with your free time. And while administrating this place has been a blast while I was still in school, the true reason for why I joined MFGG 15 years ago was to play and make games.
I returned from retirement once, because there was nobody available or willing to captain this ship. But now there is. I'd pass my torch, but I held on to it for so long that it already burned up. VinnyVideo and crew have meanwhile picked up new torches and have been doing an amazing job. I fully trust them to not only maintain this place's unique flair, but to improve on it. They have plans for this place's present and future and unlike me they actually know members who joined less than 5 years ago.
While I will throw away the coaly remains of my admin torch, I will still remain with you as a member, so this is not a good-bye post. I miss chatting, discussing our games, helping people improve and all that, so I'll try to be online more often, but I won't promise anything. Midas Machine comes first, then the forum.
One last thing for the newcomers among you: when MFGG started, all the staff was in their teens, but now we're all in our twenties at least. It is very atypical on MFGG for somebody to be staff for as long as I have been. So show your motivation to improve MFGG and become a pillar of the community, and you too, may be staff one day. This place can only survive with the energy and boredom of the youth. And if you have read the whole post until here, you're already potential future staff material.
See you guys around!
