The other topic has shown that the biggest interest and the game that makes the most sense to play right now is Mario Kart Wii, because that game's online service will end some time in the middle of May. So I hope you guys stand by what you said in that topic and let's make a Mario Kart Wii tournament, to pay a tribute to one of the best games the Wii had to offer!
So let's play
Mario Kart Wii
I'd like to make this open ended, deadline wise, since it isn't affected by the rest of the competitions, in order to avoid scheduling problems getting in the way and stretching things out. The winner of this competition doesn't get to decide any themes, just like nobody decided the theme for this competition.
First things first, the rules: - We play Mario Kart Wii, but if all participants of a match agree, Mario Kart 7 can be played instead. Otherwise, it's Mario Kart Wii. If you don't have MKWii playable when somebody doesn't want to play MK7, you lose automatically, so those who have no MKWii but only MK7, please enter at your own risk. - Tournament brackets will be created as soon as the sign-up phase ends. At least 2 players will compete in a match. See below. - Game mode is a typical Mario Kart Online Grand Prix, consisting of 4 semi-randomly selected races and default settings. All vehicles and all characters are allowed. These conditions can be changed if all participants of a match agree. In case of doubt this are the rules though. - In case of a draw after 4 races, keep repeating the procedure until one player wins or gives up.
Signing up - To sign up, post in this topic by the end of Friday, 25th of April. - Post your MKWii friend code and name. If you have MK7, post your 3DS friend code and name additionally. - Add all participants' friend code to your own game immediately to avoid having to fiddle around with friend codes before a match. So keep an eye on this topic. - Stay tuned until Saturday, when the pairings will be posted.
Playing The tournament bracket will be randomly generated and as evenly as possible distributed to have chances for everyone. How it will look like will depend on the number of participants. Now bear with me, the following may seem a bit complicated, but it's essentially a more fun alternative to a regular boring 1-vs-1 tournament bracket:
From there, the next mandatory match for you is against the direct competitor in your branch. HOWEVER you can gather your branch's neighbors if they're available and instead of a 2P match have a 4P match, with 2 winners going up. Or gather the neighbors of THAT branch and have an 8P match.
Half of the participants of a match go up the tree and get the slots in the same order as they started. Post the results of each match in this topic, so the bracket can be updated accordingly.
Do this until only one participant is left in the bracket. That is the winner of the tournament, and the 2nd ranked player in this final match would be the runner-up.
Everyone else in the best 4 ranks gets ranked as "Top 5".
That's it! Looking forward to your participation!
