Well I used my time off yesterday to finish the jungle tileset. I won't show it now as I feel seeing it in pieces wouldn't do it justice, but I will say something interesting that more or less came about because of it. Basically, the tilesets will all be in MM style (obviously), but the actual design choices will changed based on how much life is in the environment. The more "alive" the area would be, the more stylistic and vibrant it will be where as "dead" areas will use more basic shapes and designs.
For example, the desert levels are mainly made up of squares and use more realistic designs, like with the palm tree. On the other hand, the jungle looks like this:
I feel this will give a bit of a more interesting feel to the worlds themselves. Also, that mock up is a bit old so some things may have been updated since then.
