Some more ideas I had.
Pop buds- Basically flower buds that are attached to vines in the BG. You simply touch the bud and it pops open a second later, giving you a coin (like the ones in SMG2).
Choppah's and Mini Choppah - Works like Choppah from SMG2 (the green flying Monty Mole thing). You can have it stay in play, or with some variables, you can make it go up and down, or left and right (it sohuld probably pause as it reaches it's peak). Mini Choppah is the same thing but smaller (single block size). I want him since he can fit pretty much anywhere and it allows us to block paths in midair while taking up as little space as possible (Munchers have to be attacher to objects, and if you need to keep the player away from multiple sides, you are looking at at least 3 blocks taken up.)
Eglide- This is a pseudo power up. Simply enough, it's an egg you find in a ? block (should be funny since most people will assume it's going to be Yoshi). It soon hatches half way relieving a bird. If you pick it up, you will fall slowly (it could either be while you hold it, or more simley, he could grab onto the players back which may look better since some players hold graphic may make it look odd). Either way it would simply be for "falling" levels.
Eglide probably wouldn't be needed, it was jsut a random idea, but I would like to have the Choppahs or something like that in the engine to make later levels more of a challenge. As for the buds, it would be cool to have them but it won't make a huge difference in the end.
EDIT- Actually, I think Guinea and I talked about having a balloon like item in later levels that would allow you to jump high and drift, but it could pop. Eglide would work in the same manner, except he'd look more original than a basic balloon.

Just to give an idea. The egg pops out and hatches. You grab the little bird and it essentially hops onto your back and starts flapping whenever you fall.
