Incase it wasn't obvious, the old one is based on his appearance from SMB3.

Not a huge update this time, just a simple generator for Takko Fruits.
Image
After you grab a fruit, a new one will grow after about 30-40 seconds.

What's the function of such fruits, actually (might sound stupid)?

From the NCFC Booth wrote:
This little fellow is a plant-octopus hybrid. It's the right season for them to grow in ?-Blocks. Free one, and he will help you glide over longer distances. According to Professor Gadd, certain fruits might give them special powers...

I believe it also says it in game. Either way, the basic blue fruit simply causes Takko to fly to you (provided you don't already have him with you). There will be some other fruits for when you already have Takko, but we'll get into that later. The general purpose for these generator like plants is to make it so levels that more or less require Takko (or another variant) possible. See, when a fruit spawns from a ? block, it flies to the right for a while, the it flies up and away (this is for when it's meant to be more optional for the player), but with this, it never runs out, so the player has time to learn how the fruits work and can make mistakes without having to worry.

Not a very interesting update, but still, I want to get some activity going:
Image
An aquatic mine version of Urchin, or as I call it, Mine Urchin.

I'm actually working on a larger, much more interesting sheet, but I can't show any of it as it would give away a neat level we have planned.

Although I haven't posted much in anything MM related, you have some very interesting and amazing concepts, and your pixel art just keeps getting better. Keep up the great work. That Mine Urchin is a very clever twist on the classic enemy, and I can't wait to see it in action.

Two things have been bugging me regarding graphics...

1. Land-based sprites don't have an outline on the bottom, so it looks weird when they're hanging over cliffs... or if you do crouch jumps, then the sprite looks incomplete.
2. Waluigi's "Gamma" symbol for his life count is backwards (facing left when he faces right).

And those are like the only things that bugged me. Everything else has been beyond amazing.

There actually is a reason for the bottom of the sprites being opened, although I don't remember what it is at this point.

As for Waluigi's symbol, thats a known issue and will be fixed at some point.

Cruncher

Think of it as a crossbreed between a Muncher and a Nipper (hence why I mixed a few elements from both). Like a Muncher, it will stay stationary, but like a Nipper, it is not anchored to the ground. This means that if one was put on a moving floor, it will be carried away with it, or that it can be dropped by a Lakitu. Also, it can be killed (fire, throwing something at it, star, ect).

I'm actually trying to keep any enemies I make either as reskins or simple edits (in the case of cruncher, he's literally a spiked goomba that can't walk). That way once we get the remaining enemies finished, making any additional enemies will be less time consuming.

Anyways, I've started work the Big Pamooka boss sprite, but I can't do much aside from an idle until we go over the boss plan.

I have an idea for an idle animation: He occasionally takes his smoking banana out of his mouth to breath a little, then puts in back in, like a smoker does.

TBH it looks like he has a brown mask over his head, with a little bit of blue hair popping out of the top. maybe the suit could be gray-ish and the fur could be blue?

also, mine urchin doesn't really roll off of the tongue like other enemy names do, might I suggest Murchine?

I don't see how it looks like a mask, and I don't plan on making him a blue monkey. Also, "Mine Urchin" is a personal name if nothing else as his name most likely won't be shown in game.

I just think that the large amount of blue and the small amount of brown looks weird. doesn't help that the flip thing is in the back, but I dunno.

Big Pamooka has sort of an unnatural stance. He has both of his arms out in order to support his weight, but I'm not seeing weight support in this sprite.
EDIT: You may want to arch out his back a bit more in order to define the sense of him actually leaning on both knuckles.

Hmmm... Good point. I was actually thinking something along those lines earlier but I had forgotten to change it.
