[101] Q: What is Mushroom Patrol: The Midas Machine? A: Midas Machine is a fangame project started by Guinea and Chaoxys a few years ago. Midas Machine is supposed to get the best artists on board to create one of the greatest Mario fangames MFGG has ever seen.
[102] Q: What is a Showcase Project? A: You could say it's a project with special focus from the board administration and it serves as some sort of representative game of what MFGG's best artists and programmer(s) can achieve.
[201] What is the game about? The main plot of the game involves two of the Mushroom Kingdom's greatest villains teaming up to achieve the ultimate goals: wealth and world domination! And which way would be better to achieve that, than to transform everyone in your way into gold? Because that is exactly what the titular Midas Machine does. Or, should do. The Midas Machine is powered by the Hand of Midas. Join four heroes on a journey to find the complete hand before the villains do and save the Mushroom World from a golden future!
[202] What makes this game special? In this game you get to pick one out of four main characters: Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi. Every character has a unique special ability, weaknesses and strengths. Mario for example can walljump, while Luigi can perform a super jump. Wario has his signature charging ability and Waluigi can squeeze through tight holes. You can beat the game with every character alone, but if you want to find all the secrets, then you have to master all four characters.
By going on side quests and finding golden mushrooms which are spread in the levels, you can eventually unlock hidden characters, more levels, challenges and other bonuses.
The two villains you are going against are Bowser and Syrup, driven by the hunger for power and the love for money. A dangerous couple!
Another interesting aspect of the game is its pause menu, the DSe. It's an invention of E. Gadd which resembles vaguely a DSi. The DSe can run a variety of small applications, such as a camera, a chat, item manager and game settings, and its library will grow the further you get into the game.
Additionally to all those gameplay features, Midas Machine uses 100% custom graphics and music, made by MFGG's best artists.
[203] Episodic format? Since Midas Machine is such a huge project, we will release it in a total of 7 episodes. Each episode is one chapter and contains 1 or more worlds. What is special about the episodic structure is, that every new chapter will build upon the last, eventually making one big game.
[301] I want to join you guys, what do I need to do? Since this is no longer a community project (since unfortunately the community had no interest in it), you have to apply for a position in the team now. The best way to the team is by talking to Chaoxys or me via instant messenger (Chaoxys for artist/music, me for everything else, but if you only see one of us available, then you can talk to either of us). Also shows interest to reply to some topics here, e.g. commenting on posted graphics/screenshots/videos etc. Basically everyone who's genuinely interested in this, and in working ON this, WITH Chaoxys and me should not have a hard time getting SVN access.
Disclaimer: We're hiring on the basis of impression, and also personal preference. So don't be an ass, and make a good impression. (Sounds more complicated than it is, really)
