Centuries ago I worked on a Donkey Kong Country Engine for GameMaker and released a small demo for the Nintendo Community Fangame Convention (I don't remember which year :\). The project was abandoned due to life circumstances, but I am working on it again. I've put together a one-level demo showcasing what then engine is capable of. It's not perfect (yet!) but I hope you guys enjoy it! For an added challenge, speed-run the level (you have unlimited lives) and post your fastest time!

Download

Controls:
Arrow Keys - Move
X - Jump
C - Run / Attack
Z - (Squitter only) shoot a platform web, Z (again) - open platform web
R - Restart the level

Spoiler:

Final note: I am taking suggestions for victory music to be played for each individual Kong when they complete a level

It's nice to see the DKC series getting some love. The MFGG mainsite has a section for DKC stuff, but hardly anyone ever submits to it, which is unfortunate. I'd love to see more DKC fangames and resources.

Overall, this engine is an impressive feat. There are a few places where the mechanics feel a bit different from what I'm used to, but it's not a huge deviation from the mechanics in the original DKC games. I noticed that you can't stomp the Neckies when launching out of a barrel, which is annoying. Also, there was one point when there were two Dixies on screen after getting hit by a Mini-Necky. Climbing onto the platform makes the second Dixie vanish.

It took me about seven and a half minutes to finish the level on my first attempt, but I wasn't playing for speed.

It might not be perfect, but it's definitely fun to play! The camera's maybe a little janky, though.

I also found this silly graphical bug. It's fun! :P

I think I remember this!

It looks great. I didn't actually play it but judging by your screens and Will's GIF, it looks amazing. Keep it up!
