Hello, this is a project I started in February before I put it on hiatus. I just got around to polishing it up and making it presentable and would like to share it.

The game is a "remake" of the 1983 classic Lode Runner

The goal is to grab all the treasure in order to progress to the next level.

Your enemy is the Gooms from the Wario Land games. You can't kill them in a traditional way, you have to trap them by making a hole in the ground with Space.
After a few seconds, the hole you made will regenerate, killing whatever's inside it (including you).
The Gooms will try to escape. After 4 attempts, they will, and start chasing you again. Stand on top of them to prevent that.
If a Goom is sparkling, it means it's carrying Gold. Trap it to get it back.

At the moment it's a 5 level demo, the original Lode Runner has 150

The pathfinding can be a bit finnicky at times, but coming from a total amateur such as myself, its amazing I could get it to work in the state that it is.
There is also a strange bug where characters can clip through blocks and float upwards, still working on that.

R.I.P Douglas E. Smith

I'm only vaguely familiar with the source material, but it's a fun concept.

Wario's block-chopping animation is a little on the slow side.

In Level 2, I sometimes ran into a glitch when I used the second ladder from the left - occasionally I'd start moving up and right and get stuck in a nearby block. Not sure why that happened.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you get the enclosed gold in Level 2?

Hey, thanks for the feedback :D

I'll keep that in mind when I get to revamping game speeds.

Yes, ladders are semi-broken when dismounting on very specific pixels for both the player and the enemies, I'm still looking into it.

You get the gold by breaking two blocks at the top, falling in, breaking one of the two blocks you now have access to, giving you access to it.
Remember, while the Gooms get stuck in your holes, even when they seem as they could drop right through, you can fall through/move freely in them!

An example can be found on level 2 in the Commodore original:

Showcase of my AI pathfinding system
g
It's not perfect and they will get confused sometimes (particularly with when they should/shouldn't grab ropes), but it's leagues better than it used to be (they used to solely target the closest ladder to Wario, with no regards to if they can even get to it) and they need a bit of help from whoever makes the level to deal with some pathing situations

I use a system similar to the Hints system found in games made on the Source engine, since I've spent more time with it than I have Game Maker :D
