Looks lovely, I'd love to contribute some kind of graphics to it but I don't have a clue of what to do.

If you join the discord we can find something for you to do. I believe most things are still up for grabs

I recently contributed a stage to the game. Here it be:

If anyone here is a good background artist, I think we could really use your help; the vanilla SMW backgrounds are all kinda jarring at this point

Hey ho Vertette back from the dead to make people upset like always, let's go.

The art style is really all over the place. I get that it's a whole bunch of people helping out but you should at least have a few rules set in-stone, like how the shading or outlines work. One level element is lit from the left and another level element right next to it from the right, foregrounds using black outlines while entities use coloured outlines, it looks sloppy.

I'll give you some brownie points for having some kind of theme, but this level really isn't very good. It feels so arbitrary. The best kind of Mario levels feel like they slowly build up to something, where you have these elements that you mix up and twist around over the course of the level to test the player. A story but with level elements if you will. Here I'm pretty sure I could exchange parts of the level without harming the overall experience.

Hey Verts!

Anyways back on topic, my question is: what does this hack have to do with Super Mario Galaxy or anything relating the word, Galaxy?

Edit: Removed suggestion for SMG enemies.

It's a collaboration between Minus World and Mario Fan Games Galaxy. We have some people who mostly hang out on MW contributing, as well as some people who are mostly known as MFGGers.

Thanks for the comments, there are a few things here I can explain:

- I think the bush is what's throwing that screenshot off, it was a very early proof of concept for modularity (i.e. a few tiles which can be used to create a bunch of different bushes). It's lit from the left because that's how the bush in the original SMW is lit, but I immediately realized it didn't match with anything

- The koopas in that screenshot are also out of date, we've since made them more in-style with Mario (including a darker outline)

- We do have rules for shading and outlines, basically we use selective outlines that are mostly black, but colored when we need the line to appear not-so-bold. But keep in mind that you're looking at a very early screenshot, at that point in time we were still trying to figure out how the style should go

Fair enough. I do like that foreground though.

sidenote that a more fitting background will be made for that tileset and a more fitting tileset for that background will be made soon

Are there any specific songs you're in the mood for? Or are curious to hear how they sound?
I've been getting curious about songs that sound Mario-esque, and those would fit in this.
I even thought about making some of the music from the Mario World cartoon.
Here's a suggestion: There's this SNES game called EVO: The search for Eden, and it has this song that sounds a lot like a Paper Mario song:

I was thinking about doing some music for this but I'm not that good with custom SMW music, what I've tried of it is a royal pain in the ass. What I can do though is write MIDI music and have someone else convert them to MMLs, if anyone would be willing

I've fiddled about and done a few demo tracks. here's some sort of boss theme that ended up sounding like megaman x, and here's a theme for a ghost area or something
