I noticed that not very many people are enjoying this project.
That's just because no one wants Hello Engine with Mario removed.
I still think people would be more interested if you either extended SuperTux, ReTux, or The Secret Chronicles of Dr. M; or made new graphics for PGE to use. These would all be more worthwhile efforts than removing the only reason anyone uses Hello Engine from Hello Engine.
1. I don't have the programming skills to extend any of those games, and I definitely don't have the graphics skills. You could say that I could learn, but it's just not worth it for me to do either of those things.
2. PGE seems good, but not only is it not playable yet (though I understand the merits of volunteering early), but it seems like it isn't as easily-expandable as Hello Mario Engine is. Hello Tux Engine was supposed to put a new coat of paint on the engine for others who couldn't do so. In the same way, Hello Mario Engine and Game Maker have allowed me to finally feel in control of the Mario game. I'd never take money to program, I'm not pursuing a Computer Science degree, so I like the easiest, most accessible, and most-commented way of making a Mario game (the same goes for SuperTux and SMC's graphics). Unless you think that Wohlstand making it as easy as Game Maker is something that should be of concern to him (...in other words, that it's not just me), it doesn't seem as good an option.
