Great Time Champion
It's been about six years since he told us to do it ourselves. Back when WarioWare DIY first came out, Nintendo held microgame competitions. Basically, you would create a microgame, send it in and, if it won, it would be downloadable for everyone! Well, everyone in your region perhaps. But these were only held for a short time, honestly. A remarkably short time.
Anyway, I figured it might be fun to hold a little unofficial DIY comp and the reaction to this idea seems mostly positive.
However, in the spirit of the game itself, I want to do it with a bit of a twist: this will be a microcompetition. "But Dustin!" you may ask. "What on Earth does that even MEAN?" Well, I'll tell ya. I'll tell ya real good. Basically, after the competition starts, you will have two days to create a microgame. Wario only accepts the fastest developers, clearly!
-How to Upload Microgames With Real Hardware- Items required: Nintendo DS or 3DS, Nintendo Wii or Wii U (Wii Mode), SD card (any size) and copies of WarioWare DIY and DIY Showcase Spoiler:
Step 1: Create and save your microgame, naturally Step 2: Transfer it from your Nintendo DS system to your Nintendo Wii or Wii U (in Wii Mode) Step 3: Navigate to Wii Options > Data Management > Save Data > Wii Step 4: Find your DIY Showcase save and transfer it to the SD card Step 5: Open WarioWare DIY Editor Step 6: On the SD card, navigate to "(sd card drive):\private\wii\title\WA4E\" (this code may vary depending on region) and open "data.bin" Step 7: In DIY Editor, go to "modify games", right click your microgame and select "extract" Step 8: Save .mio file and upload!
Note: Playing microgames operates on a very similar system, except you inject the microgame and then transfer the save back to the Wii console
-How to Upload Microgames From an Emulated Copy- Items required: DS emulator, ROM file (not provided) Spoiler:
Step 1: Acquire DeSmuME 0.9.11 (other versions and emulators may work, but I can vouch for this one) Step 2: Also acquire a WarioWare DIY rom file. I will not be providing one for obvious reasons Step 3 (optional): Download this save file. It'll allow you to skip the tutorial stuff and have all of the MakerMatic functions already unlocked Step 4: Create your microgame and save it Step 5: In DeSmuME, click file > export backup memory and save it as a .sav file Step 6: Open CrygorTool Step 7: In CrygorTool, click file > .sav tools and open your save Step 8: Find your microgame, click it and click export Step 9: Save your microgame!
-Useful Tools- WarioWare DIY Editor - Allows you to modify your saves and mio files in a number of ways CrygorTool - An alternative to the above, may be needed for emulated saves miotool - Another alternative to the above, but not recommended as it modifies your microgame ID mioedit - Allows you to insert bitmap files as microgame graphics and may speed up that aspect
The competition will start and the theme will be revealed on Monday, November 7th at 12:00 AM EST. The competition will end on Wednesday, November 9th at 12:00 AM EST. There are no badges involved, so this is really just for fun.

Not a bird
I don't have a DS, but I heard DS games work on 3DS as well. I can't tell whether it's true or not, since I don't have WarioWare DIY or any DS game to test on my 3DS. To make it worse, I don't know how to make a DS emulator save files, which forces me to go through all the introduction and game-making learning thing everytime I want to play this game.
Guess I have no hope in joining. :<
EDIT: Ooops, I mistyped 3DS as DS

Emulating DIY has always been a bit of a tricky subject, but the latest version of DeSmuME seems to run it and save just fine. Perhaps you could try that plus the save file I linked in the second tutorial?

(I mistyped 3DS on that post)
I managed to get it working and saving successfully and easily! Kind of a shame I am only succeeding in doing it now, as I felt more like playing this game years ago... I don't remember why it was so hard back then. :P Now my current problem is the excessive lagging.
I am excited to see what will be done for this competition, but I am not sure if I'll enter myself.

Great Time Champion
It's about that time, fellas! The theme of this competition is...
Retro Fangames
Your goal is to create a microgame based on a fangame from 2005 or earlier. Super Mario Storm, Mario's Mansion, etc.
As stated before, you have until Wednesday, November 9th at 12:00 AM EST to make and submit your microgame. Good luck and hopefully we see a few entries!

2005- fangames?? That's a hard choice! Information about the oldest fangames in MFGG are lacking...
I can't think up any microgame revolving on the old fangames I know.

I Have Returned®
Maybe it'd be better if the theme was both retro and famous fangames (like Psycho Waluigi, Abducted Toad, Super Mario Flashback, Mushroom Kingdom Fusion, etc)

следующая игра скоро будет
Oh come on, there are plenty of classic (or infamous) fangames pre-2005. Super Mario Storm? Yoshi Gone MFGG? Paper Mario World? Have you people just been ignoring the MFGG catalogue your whole time here? XD

I have my doubts that anybody else is gonna be entering, but here's my microgame regardless.

I gotta agree there. This is more than a broad enough theme for any comp.

Well, it seems that I won by default and nobody else entered. Bit of a shame, really.
Anyway, I suppose we got a feel for the popularity of this concept and I probably shan't be trying it again.
