Power Star Frenzy is a 2D Platformer aimed at bring back to good old days of Mario.
Here you collect Power Stars in order to over power Bowser who has stolen the Mega Power Star.
This game features SMB, SM64, SMS, and SMG style gameplay! This game was created using Gamemaker 8.1
Also PSF will be split into chapters because of the massive increase in filesize lately.

UPDATE/CHANGE LOG:
- Version FINAL 1.0.0 was released ( 12/9/16 )
- Every single level from the previous demos were completely re-designed.
- Instead of 15 stars there is 60 to collect in this demo.
- Every World map has also been completely re-designed.
- Added Jumping and 8 directional movement to the world map.
- Item Blocks now appear on the mapscreen.
- Luigi is now a playable character!
- NEW Levelscreen HUD AGAIN.
- NEW Mapscreen HUD AGAIN.
- A tutorial level was added.
- Mystery Boxes have been added to every level.
- Brand new Multiplayer Battle Mode has been added!
- Added the GroundPound to both bros.
- Longer levels and still with all the fun.
- Star Coins, Chaos Crystals, and Chaos Events were added.
- Nicer menus for the eyes to look at and enjoy.
- Simple effects have been added to many things to give the game some charm.
- Added New Stars to every level and replaced many.
- When collecting a star you now can see stats and can get bonuses!
- Added 3 other mini worlds to check out.
- You can now enter houses in Toad Town.
- Quiz Toads also appear in some levels.
- You can run on slopes properly now.
- Secret stars have been added to both levels, and other places.
- Many new effects have been added like glowing objects, etc.
- New enemies have been added to the game.
- Complete physics overhall for the players.
- Fixed numerous collisions with enemies.
- Loading screen was changed as well.
- The game will now auto save your progress.
- Updated enemy sprites so they look better.
- Updated many other sprites to fit with the game more.
- Propeller Mushroom, Laser Mushroom, Super Bomb, and Super Flower have been added.
- Added more live decor like butterflies, birds, and dragonflies.
- Fixed TONS AND TONS AND TONS of bugs.
- No more data index does not exist bug.
- Voices were added and are toggleable.
- Better Star Select menu and look.
- Gamepad Support was added only X-Input at the moment.
- Many other more editions you can see if you download the game!
- Guarteed enjoyment to the player.

I've already gotten pretty far (almost 9 stars) and I'm really enjoying it so far!

I did find a bug, however. If you beat the second star mission in Waterfall Walkway, press escape (or quit the game) without saving, reboot the game, go back to that same level, you'll always be greeted by 5 error messages when you go to a different segment. I had to delete my save file, but I only had one power star up to that point so it didn't affect me too much.

That glitch is only caused by using an outdated save file.

I don't like the way collision in this game is right now. When you collide with an enemy just a bit to the side, even though you're on top of them but maybe slightly under, it counts as damage. I don't like that but besides that It's pretty good. The level design and mechanics are great!

Yes I know it's a problem with the engine. I am fixing it slowly it still occurs in the version I'm working on but VERY rarely so it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

There won't be another demo... because it'll look like this:

My favorite part of the game so far is the atmosphere. The scenery with waterfalls, cliffs, bushes, trees, it's beautiful. My favorite aspect of the game for sure. Can't wait to see more.

Thank you! That is actually one of my favorite parts of creating the game is making the levels I always put lots of decor because I never want to have bland levels.

Thanks for the compliments & encouragment! ;) Well as you saw with the 4 pipes over in the screenshot above and the fact that in the screenshot it says: "There are currently no unlockable characters in this demo"
Meaning there are going to be unlockable characters in the future. :D

And to be fair, well-deserved :D I'll test the demo right away!

EDIT: DARN, Why do I have so much revisions to do.
This game's amazing.

Like, really. It feels and plays like a Mario game, and you did the wonderful choice to mix several gameplay elements to give this 2-D experience a "complete" type of feeling. The backgrounds are colorful, the platforming is challenging yet accessible, something that can be seen right from the get go, there's an actual overworld system that seem pretty enjoyable as well, the music choice is absolutely fantastic so far, New and old power ups cross paths, which gives variety in botht he levels and how to handle them... WOW! So many possibilities already, and I just got 6 stars so far! Can't wait to see what lies ahead, but I have to say, PLAYING Power Star Frenzy really is the best to see how good it is.
Now, one thing I had trouble adjusting myself to was the fact that at the beginning at each new section (y'know, black screen then new environment), you had to press on the running button again (X for me), because you were already holding it, you're still going to walk, which killed me several times at first.
Got used to it now, so I don't think I can classify that as an issue.


Enjoy the praise, 'cause I sure enjoyed the game so far :D I hope to play more of it tonight.

I may get lazy at times but I always try to do my very best to make this game amazing!

The reason why I don't showcase more progress at a time is because I want you guys to still feel surprised when you play.
Also the fact that I'm revamping plenty of physics in the game as well as fixing some bugs I encountered.

Agree with Tortwag. The game feels very polished, and I like how it has a different feel -- the different power stars in each level is strongly reminiscent of SM64.

I've only just started playing through the demo, but some things that I've noticed.

First of all, typos/grammar problems:

Intro
Kamek: "Your smellyness we should..." should have a comma or ... after "smellyness"
Peach: "Thankyou Mario! You are the only one brave enough to take on Bowser!" needs a space in thank you.

Toad: "I'll take Mario to a WARP PIPE that leads to the GREEN GRASLANDS. Ok Princess?" - should be "Okay, Princess?" (or "OK, Princess?" but "Ok" isn't a word.)

Toad Town
1st Toad: "Welcome Mario! Enjoy your stay" needs a period at the end.
Peach: "Hello Mario! Nice you see you again!" - Nice to see you again. ;)

And then some physics/controls/gameplay stuff:
-Like Tortwag said, anytime you go from one environment to another, or if you bring up a chat window, none of the buttons being held down register. When talking to Toads, that oftne made me get stuck when I was holding run to the right. And when going to new screens, that resulted in my death whenever I forgot.

-Veggies kill you more than help you. They camouflage so well in the environment that I usually don't notice them. So some enemies are coming and I'm trying to shoot fire/iceballs at them, but Mario looks like he's having a bowel movement. Usually takes me a couple seconds, and often a bit of my life, that I'm actually trying to pull up a veggie. It's an interesting problem to have because SMB2 did not have fireballs, and other Mario games did not have veggies, so this problem never happened. Maybe you can make it so that you have to hold down in order to pick up veggies?

-Jumping into the water kills all horizontal momentum. It's very weird and I am deathly scared of jumping in to the water.

Those aside, looking forward to play more of this this week!
