Story
Shiff T. is a young toad with a exciting and dangerous hobby: thieving and treasure hunting with her friend Mye T. They visit numerous ruins and archaeological sites together in the hunt for riches and treasure. But things go sour one day when Shiff accidentally uncovers an ancient creature under the name Omniform. The beast begins to steal and repurpose forms, shapes and bodies of the creatures in the mushroom world.

However, an ancient artifact allows Shiff to combat the menace. Using it, she is able to shapeshift at will and use the powers of various creatures in the Mario world.

Game
Super Ancient Keys is the sequel to the fangame Toad and the Ancient Keys. It is a metroidvania platformer where the player must visit various temples to locate keys to open the way to Omniform. On the way, they will uncover new and exciting forms that provide them with new moves to access new areas.

Features:
    -Several temples to visit and explore
    -A map system (currently wip)
    -Shapeshift into Mario enemies to uncover new areas
    -A fully functional dialog system (completely from scratch)
    -This time, there's gonna be bosses
    -A fully (or near fully) original soundtrack (ogg preview)
    -Probably some keys somewhere!

I'm kinda aiming to be mostly accurate to SNES limitations, so some things may be changed to suit this.

I really like the idea of being able to shape shift into enemies. That's a really cool mechanic!

The minimap system is coming along fairly well now, after a bit of trouble. Also, if I haven't shown it before, a little preview of what the buzzy beetle form can do.

Thank you! I'm trying to pull it off the best I can. Should give some interesting level design opportunities.

maybe make her the color... not purple? I dunno, but yeah it's always been a pretty glaring aspect of the character design

and yes I know FD isn't the first person to come up with a purple toad but to avoid confusion it wouldn't be a terribad idea.

Well, I suppose it's hard to deny the similarity of a purple toad, but I dunno, I really feel it's working here. Like, I don't want to change a working thing just to distance it from Abducted Toad, y'know?

yeah but at the same time abducted toad is a popular existing fangame and if you don't want people to confuse the two it might be best to do something about it rather than just say "well it's not like FD invented pruple toads!!!!"

I think the purple suits Shiff T. very well, although I wouldn't mind seeing her with an Indiana Jones-esque outfit. I don't think it should really matter too much if it looks too similar to a Toad from a fangame, especially since this is just a fangame, not a game that is being made by a huge company that are trying to get millions of dollars.

Anyway, this project looks pretty interesting. I like how you included the ability to shape-shift into Mario enemies, along with the fact that an at least near fully original soundtrack is being made for this game.

Very true, but I don't believe confusion will be much of a problem. There's a purple toad and a SMB3 graphical style, yeah, but I think the HUD alone is enough to kinda give it away.

I don't think anybody has gotten confused yet, at least. Noted a similarity, perhaps, but not outright confusion.

Not too bad an idea, actually. Though, in my experimentation (and yeah, I am hearing y'all out!), I've found the orange color to blend in too much with her skin tone and generally just not seem all that appealing to me.

Yeah, as mentioned above, I've been experimenting with color schemes and so far the team is sticking with the purple, albeit with the modification of white spots instead of red.

And yeah, that's true. That kind of stuff is much less tolerated when money is involved. While the similarity to Abducted Toad was wholly unintentional, FD has clarified that he's okay with it, however.

Vim has stated that she may have to duck out of the project to deal with personal stuff, so I'm not sure where that leaves the soundtrack. Maybe I'll find another composer, maybe I'll just use other game music for the rest. I'm really not sure.

I'm not quite an accomplished musician, but I can take a stab at making a song and see if you like it.

I might be able to finish up the songs I've started, at least. Some of them are more or less already done.

I'm ducking out of internet in general, but basically yeah. Moving away from a highly toxic environment and family and pursuing a career in something I've had a passion for since I was little

I like the purple with white spots, but none of the hats really look natural on the mushroom cap. The jackets are quite nice, though!
