Shigeru Miyamoto has a degree in industrial design, so he should be able to measure stuff by looking it. (Or maybe not, I am not completely sure.) It doesn't really have anything to do with memory.

The story goes that Miyamoto was working on Yoshi's Island at the time, and due to Donkey Kong Country's success, Nintendo was pressuring him to make Yoshi's Island's visual style look like DKC. Supposedly, this frustrated him, which led to his tirade against DKC and subsequent overhaul of Yoshi's Island's visual design to resemble crayon drawings. Miyamoto does point out that this story may have been taken out of context, and he did work on Donkey Kong Country as a producer and supervisor, and also kept in touch with Rare during production. :talk:

Agreed the game was terrible. Who wants challenge when you have games like Kirby and the Crystal Shards being released only a few years later.
