We're less than a week away from the release of a much-anticipated new Mario game. What do y'all think of making a temporary subforum for Odyssey discussion, kind of like this?

Pros:
  • May be easier to organize than a megathread
  • Could be useful for attracting new members

Cons:
  • Subforums are sometimes overlooked, and people might not want another forum cluttering the listings
  • People seem to be using Discord chats more than the forums for analyzing video games in great detail

Let's not do a sub-forum. There's more than enough space on the index to fit another board in the Community area (especially if its temporary). Sub-forums are just awkward to browse for anything you expect people to be posting in. (Archives are a fine use for sub-forums).

Super Smash Bros. Brawl had a huge edge for it in terms of activity considering it was the first in the series with online multiplayer. With the activity levels of MFGG in general and the fact that Super Mario Odyssey is a single player game, it's kind of comparing apples to oranges.

That being said, I don't see any reason not to give an exclusive forum for the biggest Mario game in years on a Mario fan website a try! Worst case scenario is that everyone sticks to a single thread or two and we can just put those back in gaming and call it a day.

I agree with this "Mar-ee-o" fellow. It would be much more convenient to see it on the main index.

Yeah, subforums tend to be easy to overlook. I don't think it would hurt to add another forum, especially since it's for a limited time.

If we go forward with this, we'll definitely need to be careful with spoilers - including in topic titles. If you're super-concerned about spoilers (for example, if you really want to play the game but you can't get it immediately), you can contact me and I can make sure that the Odyssey forum - and the topics therein - aren't visible in the forum listings and won't appear in your search results.

Let's just go ahead and add it now with a mention of carefully marked spoilers in the forum description.

It's out in five days and people have some stuff they can probably talk about already.

Make it so you receive a 1 day ban if you comment spoilers on that forum (unless you mark them on the spoilers tag), yes i know it's too much, but Odyssey is a new game, so spoilers should be a harsher ban.
