Please address this in the rules, not just with the dupe rule. The current trend is setting a bad precedent, even if they only post in Space Junk Galaxy.

If only there was a forum that allowed account-linked dupes for purposes of RPing or jokes.

I'd like to hear this discussed somewhat thoroughly. I see the slippery slope that I caused but I'm not sure if it should be barred from happening at all. It's probably on its death bed already.

If we do ban it, we should be careful to make sure that any staff-sanctioned accounts are allowed.

If a member PMs a staff member ahead of time to make a joke account and the staff member approves it, that is fine.

Differently colored Toad news accounts is going a bit far, though.

I think the important thing to note is that they should be used sparingly.

It's sort of like why the staff stopped accepting negative scores onto the mainsite: too many of these ruin the joke. MFGG The Onion was the first of its kind, and I thought it was funny. Blue Toad News Network is still relatively new, but whoever is running YTNN is really just trying to ride off the coattails of BTNN. An oversaturation of them ruins the joke.

EDIT:

That too, actually.

ATTENTION! I am in need of coders to help fix Mario's physics for Mysterious Islandz. The game as it stands, is quite glitchy. If you are good at GM8 and is capable of reading FDE Exi's code, PM me!

This seems like a big deal, if only we had some kind of news network run by a specifically coloured Toad to report on this.

In all seriousness, Blue Toad was funny, Yellow Toad was kinda funny simply because of "oh look, another one", but any more would be pushing it.

Yeah oversaturation is the issue imo.

I'd hate to police somebody trying to have fun under any circumstances, but if we can agree on one thing, it's that it's probably for the best if too many of these accounts don't pop up. It should be done sparingly, but idk how we'd handle that with rules.

Perhaps in the future we should have a rule of thumb to have these accounts pre-approved.

I'd be fine giving BTNN a chance if they can do something original, but YTNN...eh, I feel less inclined to keeping it afloat.

Yeah, requiring staff approval for accounts like this is best. Not just because then the forum won't be flooded with different shades of Toads, but because staff will have a record of who the account belongs to as a result of the conversation needed beforehand.

Okay, yeah, requiring staff approval for joke accounts like this definitely is best especially since TOR was allegedly used to make them. At least you'll know who they belong too without hassle, then.

When I made Ludwig Koopa is Awesome, a lot of people actually thought it was funny on Discord, and the event almost became a multi-user fad. If we have joke dupes go through moderation, what would the staff-guidelines on these sort of accounts which parody a specific member be? Would my parody, and future parodies similar to it, be considered mean-spirited, or acceptable since it satirized without really mocking the original member? How exactly would staff enforce joke dupes staying within certain boundaries in good fun? I think these details need to be fleshed out clearly.

Making an account to impersonate or satirize another member really shouldn't be allowed in the first place, imo. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to consistently enforce rules based on subjective reasoning such as "whether or not it was all in good fun" and determine someone isn't just skirting the rules to flame another person.

I do think that requiring permission from us before creating these accounts will hopefully a good enough job of predetermining if an account is too mean to be given the green light.

Speaking of which, I've updated the rules to reflect this. Please keep this in mind from here on out!
