This has been in my head ever since I joined; this place is just a little too Mario. The forums are fine, but what if we had a smaller mainsite that consists of anything but Mario? It's just an idea. I love Mario games m'self but what if we had KIRBY, TLOZ, or POKEMON stuff on that site? I know loads of other people that would just love this idea if this came to be. Tell me watcha think.

That's the purpose of this site. There's already TSR and others, as if you didn't look hard enough.

I know about tsr and whatnot, but none of them have engines or fangames and it's almost impossible to find engines on the internet apart from Mario. I'm just saying. People would honestly really like to see a NFGG or something like that. Some people'd love it, some'd hate it. I'm just saying.

Come on, guys. You're misunderstanding him hardcore.

It's a very justifiable argument to make that we should have fangaming sites for other Nintendo franchises. In fact, we used to:

There was also a Megaman site once, Mega Man Fan Network was it called? It also used the TCSMS software, and it was run by RetroX of MFGG, Minus World, and the long-dead f32x.

As for whether or not we should, I think it would really have to come down to execution.

We would need more content than what you could find at VG Resource. So not just sprites, models, textures, sounds, etc. Something we offer that they don't, though, is fangames, engines, and how-tos. This would have to be a pretty big focus.

Also, would these sites all share a forum? Would they share the mainsite too, and we'll become Nintendo Fan Games Galaxy? Will they be all on their own? Would their forums have any activity at all? These are the questions we'd have to debate.

Huh, I never knew we once had sites dedicated to different franchises.
Anywho, hasn't this topic been brought up countless times in the past? Honestly, I'm not sure whether it's a good idea. On one hand it could be a good idea to attract new users, on the other hand I'm not too big of a fan to create a huge universal fangaming site.

You will take control of four playable characters which rise against a team that seemingly wants to take over the world - but are their motives really that cliché, or are there deeper motives behind their actions?

To be honest, I wanted to ask about this site branching into other game franchises for a good while, but I held back because it was likely a commonly asked question and would "destroy" the spirit of this site. Since I accepted the fact that MFGG wouldn't change like that, the idea of creating my own community crossed my mind multiple times. In fact, just recently, SmithyGCN stated his idea of creating his own sprite community to me, but I think discussing it further in another thread is a smarter idea.

Anyway, regardless of which happens first, I think a bigger advantage of having our own multi-franchise fan site over certain other ones is breeding a more positive community. One that actually provides a good balance for critiques and the acceptance and support of members isn't driven by what is basically a popularity contest.

I'm not at all opposed to this idea. I remember when I first discovered MFGG years ago, I also stumbled across the sites HylianDev mentioned (the metroid and zelda ones at least, I'm not sure if I saw the others). I was really excited about them, but was disappointed when I saw that they were completely dead (though I still had fun browsing through them...). I would really like to see something like that come back.

MFGG has a nice niche carved out on the internet, we're not too big and not too small. One problem of many that I can see with expanding into full Nintendo Fan Game Central would be the increased attention. I'd worry the site would be far more likely to get taken down if we were suddenly trying to make fangames of all Nintendo properties.

And the mainsite would need to be designed with this kind of thing in mind, you couldn't just change the name now and expect to use the current forum and mainsite software that we have.

I've been secretly thinking about making a Zelda fangaming site. I obviously haven't done much about it (outside of creating one back in 2013 and deleting it because I was still very religious and I saw it as "backsliding"), but I'd like to at some point, ideally.

Well, whether this site gets converted into a general Nintendo resource or spinoff sites emerge, I just want to have a vast pixel art site that encourages newcomers and overall succeeds where certain other communities fail. While I get the point of this site receiving the axe if it grows too large, my own problem with it growing too big is how taxing a larger user database is to the admins and members alike. Regardless of whatever confidence I have, I just don't want the stress to take a nasty toll, which is what I think happened to other web sites.

Your ideas are good. (I like the pixel art one) But my original idea was to keep MFGG going but also have a separate site with anything but Mario. It was just an idea of mine as it's (as I said earlier in this topic) almost impossible to find fangames of anything other than Mario. I was going to make a Kirby Triple Deluxe styled fangame, but, there were no engines out there. My entire point though, was to not limit people to just Mario. I rest my case.

I don't like that Mario limitation myself; however, if MFGG even wants to create a separate site for the rest of the franchises, a good way of tackling it is in order. Otherwise, the worst-case scenario is that we'll lose both the new site and this one.

An interesting idea. I have mixed feelings about expanding our scope. On one hand, it would increase our potential audience, but it's also true that we occupy a niche (Mario fangaming) and we fill it better than any site that's out there. Sometimes it's easier to do one thing well than to try to do a lot of things well.

It's also crossed my mind to make a parallel mainsite for indie projects. I know there are already lots of other sites that serve a similar function (like Game Jolt), but MFGG has a growing indie scene, and it's worth discussing if people are interested.

A while ago I suggested accepting other nintendo related games except pokemon, but people didn't like this idea due to it making mfgg a bigger target for nintendo (which wouldn't be a problem imo)
but having an mfgg 2 just for other nintndo fangames or indie games is a pretty bad idea. the community is already getting smaller so we should be focusing on making the community grow instead of creating side communities.

You know, you do raise a point. Compared to the other Nintendo franchises, who honestly is willing to join a Mario community anymore? Sure, there are fans of the older games (including the RPGs), but until Super Mario Odyssey proves that it's a serious Mario game, I doubt the franchise draws in the crowds like it used to. Just creating other communities based on other Nintendo series will give some of these users no reason to stick around here anymore.
