i think this should be something we communicate clearly in the coming months so we all have the same idea of what we're getting, and also so we don't suggest things that outright won't work. i recall suggesting a handful of designs in the past but i no longer have them handy, so if by some miracle someone has them it'd be cool to dump them here. as an aside, if i find time i wouldn't mind redrawing the main art of mario on the front page to be in the official art style and vectorized.

I suggest redrawing the website's layout, keeping the current look as a base and focus on making it look more modern. I could try redrawing Mario on his computer, if you allow...

i mean, i guess other people can draw it? i didn't really mean for it to be a competition. my point was so that it's in line with all the smilies and there's less inconsistencies. granted it being an SVG should be mandatory for obvious reasons. I'm completely fine with Mit redrawing the computer Mario, and I'd prefer having something closer to the original image, with that peace sign and old PC. I dunno about the layout, though. I like the current layout of the site so I guess I'd want to see a more modern version of that.

I think that a modern-looking PC would just look kinda silly. What would it be? Black tower, thin monitor? Idk how well it would work out. I like the idea of keeping the old PC.

This thought crossed my mind just recently. If we're going to change Mario at his computer, why not have it so that it changes every time you refresh the page? I've seen avatars on web sites work like that and it'll give each artist who contributed an equal amount of exposure.

I think the old PC has a goofy charm. A newer model PC would just look silly. I think it would be worth giving the desk and the chair an update, however. An armed computer chair would work well enough, I think, and it seems to be what you're getting at with those sketches anyhow. As for the pose, I'd be fine with either.

Doesn't fit at all with the current theme but that's to be expected.

Like Kritter said, it doesn't quite fit the current theme due to differning styles. Perhaps you could make the layout more modern and flat? It could look better in that way.

that image was just a test to see how it'd look in "current" action. i definitely can't rehaul the whole site's design on my own, if at all, and the main goal of this thread is to come up with a common consensus on what the site would look like overall. now that we've got a handful of assets, i think we should try to work together to come up with a new site layout that's accessible and easy to work with for different skins.

I like how you traced it, but I don't like the flat coloring and having pipes behind.

Yeah it needs shading badly. I like the pipes though.

I don't see why the lack of shading is an issue, it's styled after the modern 2D art. Additionally, the new website will most likely be minimalist in design, so this version would mesh rather well with the final design. I'm not convinced a Metro style site design is the best idea for MFGG, it's just another passing fad like shiny web 2.0 buttons and so on. I feel like MFGG should keep a bit of its identity when it comes to site design. I'm sure it'd work just fine and I'd have to see a site mockup, but honestly the minimalist design just makes websites feel like soulless business websites.

Y'know...as a funny easter egg...on random occasions (a 10.5% chance) Mario could change into a different character. (I.E Luigi, yoshi, kirby(?), [size=50]Sonic[/size], etc.)
