I feel like uploading avatars is awkward. Here are three things that we can do to improve it. 1. Upload through devices- Uploading through links isn't the most useful, mostly cause images can be very big. I feel that uploading through our devices would be less of a trouble. 2. Bigger size- Not TOO big, at the very least 342x360 or 242x260. 3. Custom image section- This isn't needed, but It'd be easier to use. It could keep track of the avatars you uploaded as your avatar, and you can select them as you please. Do you guys agree or disagree?

And I also wish that we don't need something like Imgur to use custom avatars!

Avatars are p small on this forum and I wish you didn't make us link offsite. Its kind of a pain. I guess the size is nice because it syncs up with the badges pretty well, but we could always make them display more per row.

Something else I forgot to mention. 4. Please please PLEASE make the avatar interface better: I do not want to click (or tap) on multiple tabs just to get to another section.

The current interface and size limit for avatars is antiquated and cumbersome to use - one of the most outdated aspects of the phpBB software. It definitely needs improving.

I would assume something not worth changing until MFGG3.0 though, no point wasting time now if it's probably going to change down the line later.

The avatar size is fine. They're massive compared to every other forum I frequent which includes Bay12, TIGSource, Starmen.net and NESdev. The problem is when avatars are so big they take up post space and slow down page loading. The signatures are already so atrocious I have to disable them. Most of the one-word posts around here are dwarfed in size compared to people's signatures. I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think the avatar sizes should be increased. I don't see a single avatar on this site with enough detail to warrant quadrupling in resolution. The other suggestions sound good, though. I don't see any reason against including those.

The linking thing is fairly insecure. I was linking to my host once, and I password-locked my host not remembering that my avatar was here, and it ended up causing a password popup on the forums lol. MFGG3 will definitely have a much more modern avatar system.

I would prefer if it allowed images at any size and automatically resize it, with the option of moving the image around the frame.

Problem with that is you get people who find a cool 4000x4000 image and decide they want a small portion of it as their avatar, and it's still the same filesize as a 4000x4000 image. Same goes for simply resizing the image. I wouldn't be against downscaling to a degree, but there has to be an upper limit, especially if the website is going to be mobile accessible.

I am sure that there exist functions that will take this 4000x4000 image and save only the portion you need. HD's gotta get on that.

Obviously phpBB's interface and features aren't cutting edge, but it does support uploading avatars. I'm 95% sure we've always disabled it to preserve resources. Well, it's not 2005 anymore. Bandwidth is cheap and plentiful, and for this community storage probably isn't a concern. The admins have my blessing to turn it on if they so wish. P.S.: Don't increase the displayed avatar size unless you're also wiling to make the user info margin wider to accommodate that max size. Inconsistent margin width from post to post sucks.

I agree! Took me about 30 minutes to get my avatar up. Links to the image wouldn't work, wrong resolution, it was annoying.
