There are some forum websites with "Status Updates" like The Sonic Stadium and Spongebuddy Mania, So I thought, "Why not have MFGG have those?" Where would it go? It would go on the right side of the website and would stretch until it reaches suggestion center. It would show 5 status updates at a time and will push the list down when a new update is added, kinda like removing the one on the bottom. Thoughts?

I don't think I totally understand what the status is [i]for[/i]. What does it display?

that looks wholly unnecessary and wouldn't really modernize mfgg in a good way even modern social media did away with status update side bars, mainly because nobody cares about your random, scattered thoughts on an internet forum

Not a good idea. Mostly because I think most MFGGers with actually interesting thoughts wouldn't use it (they would probably use a blog or Twitter, if anything) and it would mostly be spammed and filled by a handful of users that nobody is actually going to pay attention to.

I think its a cute idea but Zero Kirby is probably right. Any super important news or updates would probably be rare and drowned out rather quickly. Maybe if it was a feed that could be updated or approved by a staffer it would be better, but then that becomes a question of what counts as worthwhile content. Where do you draw the line as to what projects are considered worthwhile?

I think it'd be neat. A lot of forums have that feature.

I remember a time (circa 2008) when "social networking" was just getting big, and it seemed that sites everywhere were adding status updates or blogs or friend systems. In practice, few people used these features, and they generally weren't too effective at getting eyeballs on useful/fun/friendly content. There's a reason that many of these sites have canned the less-used "social" features. I'd be more willing to consider adding status updates if people gave me an example of a situation when they might use them. I don't know how often we'd have users wanting to share things that are too short for a regular forum topic. And in those cases, I have a suspicion that most of these users would post their random thoughts on their Twitter/Tumblr/whatever the kids are into these days instead of MFGG. Now, if we did add status updates, I could use them to complain about my team projects even more frequently. That may or may not be a good thing.

Yeah, I don't really know about this idea. However, a global forum timeline ([i]above[/i] the status thing in the example site) just might be a good addition.
