With this example though, at least the Community section is consolidated under one banner with General Chat and News still central to the list rather than shoved to the bottom.

Eh, I'd see the community as a bit more important in this scenario. I'd say it works out because people can be kept up to speed with the latest topics in the Community section while also checking out people's creations in the Creation Center if they have the time.

I'm still kinda liking three categories instead of two, myself. As for the order of the categories, idk if I have a real preference.

While I'm not a fan of things being too condensed, I'm not a fan of needlessly bloating things either. Two categories suffice.

I prefer 3 categories, too. It's not needless bloat if it actually organizes the forums a little better, and the more you compress things the more everything will appear cluttered and disorganized, ironically. Anymore than 4 (even with any additional forums added) would be way too much, so I think 3 works just fine now. The initial option #1 that Blu proposed is ideal, imo

If we were to go with my initial option #1 then I would perhaps like to bump Community up a level to make it seem a bit more important. Are there any objections to that?

That's too much. EDIT: Also just realized Cruise's #2 is identical to mine. Should read before I post, derp. In that case I go with #2

the second point is absolutely not relevant, because the average user is not a staffer i'd agree that four would be too much [i]if[/i] the fourth category wasn't effectively a graveyard zone that most people only use to find archived information from past competitions and events, and thus it can easily be thrown out of view by simply not scrolling onward also, i'm fine with bumping community up a level if we go with #1 EDIT: read this post without coco's edit in mind as i wrote it before that was a thing, that way "the second point" makes more sense

Yeah, frankly, the site looks like a clusterfuck with all these categories. Despite being more organized, it actually feels less organized to me now with all these categories that feature just two to three boards.

It is pretty fractured, and having more categories does add to the page length. I don't know if it's too radical of a difference though. Nah, the dungeon should remain at the bottom of the page, as it's the least important board. We really don't need it right at the top. I'm entirely with Kritter, though. Fangaming is the core of the MFGG, so you might as well put the developer boards into the MFGG category as well and drop the Creation Center Category. [size=50]It wouldn't be the first time doing away with the CCC would benefit MFGG.[/size] There's really no reason we need to have two categories when it's just 5 boards total, anyway.
