On the flipside, there have been plenty of times where I would have liked to show my thanks or appreciation of a certain post without feeling like it'd be worth me posting about it. If I feel like something is worth posting I'll do that over simply leaving a "like".

Upvoting / downvoting isn't the right way to think about it, especially downvoting as I don't think that should exist at all.

At the very least, this kind of thing needs a test run before any conclusion can be reached on it.

Also don't allow anonymity when liking or reacting to a post

Accountability would help prevent a lot of negative bandwagoning

We should discuss what reactions we have. MW has a lot of very expressive reactions, but I find myself only using a select few of them. They've got, what like, 30 reactions? A lot of them are duplicates of each other almost. There are two sunglasses reactions, I feel like that's all I need to say lmao. It's kinda too hard to pick a good one.

Facebook, on the other hand, has too few imo.

Let's try maybe a "funny", "sad", "excited", "confused", "thinking" (just bc the thinking emoji is my favorite), "sunglasses", etc. 10 max.

I think it should say who did what also.

keep in mind that minus world has a reaction for each smiley. they're both linked features.

furthermore some may be similar yes but each one has a different connotation. the two sunglasses ones serve very different purposes, the most obvious one being is that ultra cool is more or less used ironically.

Ten sounds like a good amount

i legitimately think it boils down to what smilies we have and what emotions they depict. 10 could debatably be way too few.

10 would almost be too many in my eyes. I'd rather not see them tied to smilies otherwise what's the point? I'd rather see them tied to a purpose. I still like the idea of things like "helpful" or "thanks" which you can't really convey with a simple smiley.

think of reactions as replying to a post with only a smiley, only it's not an actual post and it's at the bottom of the post being reacted to next to the "like" or "thumbs up" or whatever button

You can't just toss out numbers like they fit perfectly. You provide what is serviceable as emoicons, then turn those to reactions, and see if the community suggests anymore.

Really love places that allow reactions. It makes posting feel more engaging and worth it overall. I've heard arguments from people who haven't really used these kinds of things that it could make the board more negative but it's always been the opposite in my experience- even if the reaction is limited to something like "thanks", but the more the merrier

Reactions could just be linked to the smilies you have. Have members pick their favorites and start with a smaller number at first then add more as needed or requested.

mit, future admin of mfgg, posted a really nice set of smileys he was working on. they're big mario faces like the old jp box art. those would make for good reactions
