forum currencies seem to be standard on a good chunk of boards nowadays, so here's MFGG's chance to submit to peer pressure. you can use forum currencies to purchase various things you can use on the board. common things you can buy tend to be decorative like avatar objects, things for your profile, and other things you can use to decorate your posts. what other things could we make purchasable that fall in line with MFGG's overall themes? another important question is what should the currency itself be called. tusk bucks and coins were both popular suggestions from site talkback, so what other names could we go with?

I like this idea, and think it could add a lot to the community and social aspects of this forum. Since I favor the name tusk busks I would like to see that name happening, but if I were to suggested another name, maybe stars, or powerstars, or whatever you wanna call them. Why? Because Coins are on every forum, yes they might not be mario coins, but they are still called coins. With starts, we would still have the mario theme and something original, atleast kinda.

I've been skeptical of forum currency, but I'm less skeptical now. The problem is, what could you spend it on? Idk of anything other than avatar hats or whatever. That doesn't seem like a large enough justification for it. And as always, my vote is for Tusk Bucks.

cosmetics could range from avatar items, maybe member bars, pre-approved post backgrounds, maybe even a secondary avatar spot where people could put a small image and a quip, showcase a badge, or other things like that

what if you could buy smilies, giving you access to a wider range to choose from?

i think that was another suggestion i had in site talkback, that and a smiley "hotbar" where you could pick and use 10 smilies you've bought at a time. maybe smilies can be sold in larger packs that are each themed differently? this also calls back to the original "marioji" idea we came up with when the new smilies were being made where there were a ton of them for different purposes [img]http://i.imgur.com/JFHeCHR.png[/img]

I would like to see a forum currency. You could get a little reward for participating in competition voting, upvoting posts, or just posting regularly. I'm not a big fan of post backgrounds, which tend to look very MySpace-y, but the other ideas could be fun. I prefer the Tusk Bucks name because it's much more original and distinctive than Coins. However, we're a Mario fansite, and coinage plays an important role in the Mario series, so coins wouldn't feel out of place in our community. Plus, as the originator of the "Tusk Bucks" name, I don't want to be an annoying person and push overly hard for it.

there needs to be something expendable to spend money on so it doesn't become pointless once you buy everything. Not sure what tho.

some gambling games could be fun. integrating betting into bingo events like E3 for bigger cashouts sounds like it could be really fun regular gaming events could become a thing and you bet on players, could just use saltybet for that too

I'd like to see a proper write-up on exactly what this would be used for. In depth. With margins and fonts. Tusk bucks still sounds stupid and confusing though to me. I wish there was something more MFGG than a small in-joke april fools currency, but I don't think it'll matter too much in the end as long as the purpose of said currency is outlined and easy to see, with stickied posts and all that whizbang. Still, if I had to nominate an alternative, my vote is on Kritter Koins, it's really the only logical choice.

I'm not sure about a forum currency. It could be fun, but it could also end up being a useless gimmick. If we were to use a forum currency I would definitely be in favor of using the Tusk Bucks, merely because the walrus is MFGG's mascot. What else would be more suited? There should also be an API available to integrate the forum currency into fangames. That's also one reason why I wouldn't want them to be named coins - if they were to be used in fangames, coins becomes very ambiguous.

here's an idea for a purchasable smiley set- legacy smilies, which give you access to the original set of smilies pre-reshading, including forgotten ones like :soverynothing:, :soveryshitty:, and so on

i really dig this idea mainly because i've always wanted to use the original so very nothing but i don't think i was ever able to
