At long last, the Super Competition has come to you once again! I noticed that I had to start this and the Joke Game Comp up again (the latter of which I will do at a later date ;) ), so here it is coming to you for the first time in 2017! What is the theme for this competition, you may ask?

IT'S ABOUT TIME (pardon the bad pun)

Your job is to utilize the concept of time within your game. Super Competitions are generally very light on how you use the theme, so you could even have something as simple as a quote and it would pass (i.e. "It's time to stop!"). Here are the rules you need to know:

  • Teams of up to two members are permitted.
  • The game should use as many original resources as possible. At a bare minimum, it must use the following: an original engine, at least two sprites with at least two frames of animation each, and at least one music track. Music remixes are allowed as long as they were composed after the competition started.
  • Fangames and indie games are both acceptable.
  • Have fun and be creative!

The competition ends on February 26, 2017, so that should be plenty of time for you to cook up something in a timely manner! Now get creating, you wonderful MFGGer you.

Hmm... seems this topic hasn't gotten a single reply yet! I'm pretty busy these days, thanks to grad school and working three different jobs. However, I came up with an idea for this, and I hope I can finish it.

Finding time to make games is difficult for me, but next week I'll be manning a table at a science fair for the better part of two days. And since I have to have something to show the students, why not make a game live and in person?

I'll need someone to make a few sprites, although the requirements won't be anything super-complicated. Go shoot me a PM if you'd like to see this game happen - and get some "Real Life" exposure for your work, too!

The deadline for the competition has passed and...it looks like Syax was the only one that actually made something.

So uh, congrats for being the only person to submit something, I guess.

I had an idea for a game, but I unfortunately didn't have the motivation to even start it. Oh well. Maybe next time. Perhaps we should make the deadline a bit shorter next time (I always thought 4 weeks was just too long for a game-making competition)?

Sounds good to me. I tend to not notice when a comp starts, so just send me a PM when the time comes and we can figure something out.

So its April now and I'm going doing an interest check:

If the next Super Comp went up soon, who would be willing to participate?

I want to try doing a couple of things differently this time around to help people stay on track. First and foremost I want to try a preliminary signup segment where people can put together and submit a concept before getting to work. That way we have a good idea of who will be participating ahead of time. This segment would last for one week. If the deadline is missed, you can always enter a bit late, but you would still need to submit a team and concept beforehand (no surprise last minute entries)

I would also like to maybe have weekly check-ins. Progress reports on how the game is going as you work on it. These would be required to remain eligible for the final voting.

The idea behind these changes is to differentiate the super comp from the minigame comp. I feel that the Super comp would benefit from giving participants ample time to produce bigger, more polished experiences. Because of these higher expectations, the preliminary phase would also (hopefully) keep us from wasting our time waiting 2-3 weeks for nobody to participate when we could instead just put off the entire event a little bit, giving people a chance to recoup after a previous comp.

Yeah I'd be up for doing something, as long as there is a good theme. A good theme is pretty much the most important and instrumental thing in participation for me, but I might end up doing it anyways

The theme will always be a lax guideline more than a strict requirement so I would hope that the theme not quite lining up with what you want to do would not be an issue.

Regardless, I'm open to theme suggestions.
