A few months back, Parakarry hosted a level contest on Nintendo's latest level-editing platform, Super Mario Maker. Now, it returns - this time, with a theme - and a few other requirements.

Rules

Play fair. Nobody likes a level that's too difficult. Your level can be hard, just not too hard.
You can't submit a level that was uploaded before this contest started. If you have a work in progress level, or one that's nearly complete, feel free to finish and upload it.

Other

The deadline is January 18th, 2016. Top 5 voting will last two days. Final voting will last two days.
Whoever wins can private message me a theme of their choice, along with additional requirements. The topic will be created on the fourth of the next month.
If there is enough demand, the theme can be changed.

Welcome to the 2nd Mario Maker Level Contest! A few months back, Parakarry hosted a level contest on Nintendo's latest level-editing platform, Super Mario Maker. Now, it returns - this time, with a theme - and a few other requirements. Spoiler: Theme "Exploration" Have you ever come across a level that was a vast, expansive cave? Or perhaps a "metroidvania" level? Even a ghost house that required you to back track with that new shell helmet you found. These all can be filed under "exploration", so you should have an idea of what this theme is. There's no required setting; go nuts! However, there are a few required elements. Try to use these creatively! Required Elements At least two powerups; Yoshi and Goomba's Shoe count At least one bumper (here's a tip: only Mario can interact with bumpers!) Recommendation Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World are the easiest to work with for these types of levels. Try not to max out the ground limit. You can use semisolid platforms to fill in walls. Here are a few specific examples of mechanisms, if you wish to include them: Spoiler: Bumper 1 If you're Super Mario, the bumper sends you up. If you're small Mario, the bumper sends you right. This can be used to reward better players and help worse ones. 2 A simple shell gate. If you have a shell on hand, you can send it through the gate and discover a secret vine. P-Switch 1 A simple timed mechanism. Can also be used with Thwomps or moving platforms instead of tracks. 2 An infinite P-Switch. Once the initial switch is pressed, the pipe produces switches which are sent into the root of the Muncher, which presses them. Now, that's not to say that these are the only ones that can be made. Go wild!

Didn't think I'd come up with something so fast, but I managed to construct something already. Put a lot of heart into it, so I hope y'all enjoy. Hmm, another Mario Maker contest? I'll try to come up with something if time allows. I've never tried to make an exploration level before.

I made this nice Zelda II dungeon style level but it ended up being way too long and SMM wouldn't let me have more than one checkpoint so I didn't upload it. I must keep trying for the sake of precious badge points.

This is my first Mario Maker level ever~ https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintend ... -0191-4F13 "Rampage in Red and Blue" The two featured power-ups are Costume Mario and BIG Mario (modern colors). So, for my very first level, I decided to execute my most complicated idea possible. Please tell me I'm getting it. ;P

I've patched my stage since I noticed it didn't have the two powerups, so now it has three! https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintend ... -0186-61E6 I also made it a lot less tedious to play through. Hopefully this version is more fun.

I finished my course! I don't think this is that great since this is my first time trying to make a metroidvania course, but at least I was able to learn from this.
