The discussion topic about the second special competition of this year has shown a clear interest in a creative subject that has not been handled before - that is none other than

Animation

I made that sound like I was trying to build up tension, even though the theme is already in the title of this topic. The winner of this competition doesn't get to decide any themes, just like nobody decided the theme for this competition.

First of all, the rules:
- Any kind of animation is valid - you can create a sprite, flash animation, a 3D model or even just draw some stuff on a flipnote etc. - as long as it animates, it is eligible to participate.
- Pure videofilming is allowed too
- Including sound is encouraged, although not mandatory to enter the competition.

That is pretty much all the rules already! We are very open this time to encourage lots of people to participate, so get creative!

Deadline is one and a half weeks from now, 15th of July 2014
As long as it's still the 15th of July in any country, you can still participate.

That's it!
Have fun!

I might give it a shot, even though animation is not my thing.

Does an animatic storyboard count? (Not sure if that's the proper term for it).

I'll give it a try, I do like making sprite animations. But I guess I'll have to use Youtube for the sound part.

If it moves, then yes. I'm not sure what you mean by that, if it's just a comic it isn't allowed, but if you can make it look like a "movie", then yes, you can do that.

well hey lookey there I would able to do a thing

Time limit seems reasonable. I think I'll try and give this a shot.

I'd think it would count.

Although I'm happy for an animation competition, I was kinda expecting a theme to go with it =p. It's a bit understandable though.

Yeah, it's like a comic that moves and has sound added to it (not speech bubbles). I was just curious. I can't even enter this because I'm away from home for now, but I'm looking forward to the entries! :D

It is doubtable we have another Animation competition in the future, so I decided to make it as broad as possible to encourage many participants. If we have another one, it will probably be bound to a theme.

I might've found what I want to do. It's the attack where he uses his head as the tip of the spear and attacks.

...I know it's a bit late =p.

Couldn't think of a funny idea for a cartoon (the humor style from the game I'm working on doesn't apply well to a cartoon, and I'm a terrible writer...), so I decided to work on animations for a character for a game I'm working on. I'm still trying to work on making the run cycle better, as I have little experience at animation. Criticism is GREATLY appreciated.

Yes, this is the same character that's currently in my avatar BTW...

Are executable cutscenes composed in game maker acceptable? Is content planned to be used later in a game acceptable as well?

The animation I plan to make hasn't been premade, but I feel like I can pull it off in the limited time we have due to it's short intended length (most likely less than a minute).

If you record a gif off of it or something, yeah, that works. You can use it in later games too.
