What is your opinion on the "this-game-is-exactly-like-the-previous-one" kind of games? You know, like with the Mega Man games, which are all pretty much clones of each other. Do you bother playing a game that feels too similar to its predecessor?

I don't really care that much, as long as they are fun in their own right. But I think it's worth discussing, since there are people who don't seem to feel like playing a game when too much content is recycled.

Rayman 2 is the best Rayman game.

If the gameplay is the same, I just hope that the game itself mixes things up to make it interesting. (Sonic Mania, anyone?)

All traditional Touhou games since Touhou 6 and forth are exactly as you described, but we don't mind. We still look forward to the next games, and expect them to be still the same in gameplay.

I have just bought Samus returns two days ago. I hope to play it tonight and for the gameplay to be Super Metroid - More of the same.

Seriously though, I don't like it too much. I get that the game should feel like it's predecessor. However, make games with their own twist. That's what I liked about 3D Land versus New Super Mario Bros. It was the first game in awhile that dared to be different. Now we're getting Odessey cause of it.

I'm totally cool with it, if the game improves upon the previous game (i.a. Paper Mario 64 -> Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door) or does something even a little different (i.a. Super Mario 64 -> Super Mario Sunshine).

For me, the ideal method is to take the foundation of the first game (or the one that worked best) and build upon it with new ideas.

Look at the Sandbox Mario games vs the NSMB games. 64, Sunshine, and Odyssey use the same general idea, as far as the groundwork is concerned, but the top layer is changed up with new major gimmicks (FLUDD/Cappy), plus smaller ones sprinkled in here and there.

Then you have the NSMB series where, theres no change to the top layer, they just add in a couple new enemies in a few random levels, a new spin on the flying power up (that usually is under utilized anyways), and then they call it a day.

I don't mind! And adding new things always helps even if the gameplay is similar.
All the Mega Mans are different even if the game plays the same.
Whereas even in most rom hacks of say, Mega Man 2, even if you edit weapons, music, everything, you can tell it's built around Mega Man 2.

I would think that MFGG, a community famous for HATING Hello Clones (and Mario clones in general), would be adverse to this.
