| Post subject: | Old Clickteam Games Incompatible with Windows 10? |
This is probably a long shot, but here goes. Sorry if it's been asked before. I've been trying to replay old fangames from around '03 - '05, and some of them won't start. I get this error: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)." My guess is there's some incompatibility with Win 10, but I've had no luck with compatibility mode. It doesn't happen with all the old Clickteam games I've tried, so maybe it's limited to a specific version of TGF / MMF. Anyone seen this before? Know of a fix? Thanks. |

You might be missing Cncs32.dll or Cncs232.dll? Not sure honestly, but track those down and chuck them in the folder with the fangames then try again. |

Yep, tried that. No luck. I downloaded a bunch more old games today that all worked. Whatever the root cause, it seems to affect a pretty small minority. Ah well. |

I've found that old Clickteam games work remarkably well under newer operating systems. 95% of the time, problems running old Clickteam games can be attributed to the CNCS DLLs that Kritter mentioned. If it's not the DLLs, using Compatibility Mode will often fix the problem. If other Clickteam games are working on your PC but a handful are not, see if you can get your hands on an older computer (Windows XP, or better yet, Windows 98) and run them on that. A VM should also work. |
