Holy crap. This looks like it takes the little good stuff there was from Other M (the agility and stylish finishers) and puts it into a proper 2D Metroid game (even if it's just a remake of M2, but Zero Mission was also nothing like the first Metroid).

Very excited.

So yeah, a lot of people pointed out that the AM2R takedown makes a lot more sense now.

It looks really great. And yeah, I noticed that it seems to take the good from Other M.

Looks really good! I like that they've kind of updated the moveset and modernised a lot of the game, I look forward to playing it.

It's kind of a shame that it's 3D though, I feel like it loses a bit of its personality when it's a 2D Metroid with a 3D art style.

I actually really like this style. I understand your perspective too, but I love Samus' design here a lot for some reason. I guess it kinda reminds me of Space Ghost or something lol

I like these graphics, but I definitely know where Kritter is coming from. 2D Metroid has had some of the best pixel art I've ever seen.

in a way i can also see the 3D assets hindering gameplay, games like sonic generations do similar things and don't feel as crisp because the 3D models usually can't emulate any graphical/animation tricks 2D assets can. it usually feels kinda "soft" if that makes any sense.

but then again games like smash bros are the total opposite and feel really crisp in 3D so it might just be an engine thing. here's hoping this game's as sharp as zero mission and fusion.

Nintendo wants to be like Hollow Knight but they aren't good enough to be Hollow Knight.

It's definitely an engine thing. It does take a bit of effort to make 3D assets look as "clean" as 2D ones though - I remember seeing that presentation the developers of Guilty Gear Xrd did about the cheats they had to do to make sure the new 3D graphics looked just like the classic 2D stuff. They did one hell of a good job though.

I think part of the problem with Sonic Generations looking kinda weird is because Classic Sonic doesn't really do any "out there" animation. Like they're trying way too hard to keep his general shape the same no matter what pose he's doing which ends up making him feel pretty stiff in comparison to the gorgeous worlds he visits, and Modern Sonic who is allowed to be pretty animated

If anybody can do it though, Nintendo can. And Metroid's not known for being particularly cartoony, so I don't think we'll have to worry too much about it looking weird.

Having said all that, I feel like this is probably a test run for a "future" 2D Metroid title.

Falcon Punch is the result of the Sun heating fists. It drives the Blue Falcon. Heating causes destruction of water into the pain, where it then hurts, creating rain. Rain creates flowing water in tears, which can then be converted into other forms through more pain.

This.

If we want a Metroid 5, this game has got to sell well.

Here's a longer look at the game and a bit of an interview, looks pretty darn good! Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Oh wow, on his shirt is the old diagram of Samus depicting her as the bulky amazon-type woman she originally was. Glad to see this was not forgotten, since modern games depicted Samus as a skinny super model.

I think this is the graphic on his shirt:

I've always thought Samus looked really awkward outside of her suit in the newer games, glad I'm not the only one. It's just not what you'd expect to see. I much prefer how she looks in that image, plus she still looks hot so why'd they just not go with that? Tiny waist and big boobs isn't the one and only attractive look...

About the actual game though I've never played the original, but this looks really awesome! I will definitely get it eventually
