Bubsy is one of the games I wanted a SNES for back in the day. There used to be an Australian Kids TV Show called A*Mazing where kids would play SNES games (and later N64) at a certain point to compete for points such as Mario Kart or DKC, also Bubsy where the winner would be the one who got the most balls of wool.

Though much to my disappointment I never got a SNES for Christmas. The only silver lining is that Bubsy was nowhere near as good as my childhood brain probably thought it was watching it on TV when I finally got to play it on emulators years later.

This new game looks terrible and not in a "so bad it's good" way. At least in my onion.

Crash Bandicoot makes sense though as it's a relatively popular property that was actually GOOD for its day, with a huge deal of nostalgia to back it seeing as it's remaking the original games for a modern audience. It's the perfect time to bring back franchises like that. The Sonic Forces thing I don't have a problem with either, even if the game itself looks a bit bland to me.

Bubsy though... they're trying to ride the nostalgia train but not that many people had any fondness of Bubsy to begin with. They'd need to do something amazing to sell it, and this trailer just makes the game look even less interesting than the old ones. Bland 3D, janky gameplay etc. You can't sell a new Bubsy to people on nostalgia alone.

People will buy it. And besides, it could be fun! It's a new IP and we know nothing about it.

Eh, I've never liked the first 2 Bubsy games, even slightly. The controls were terrible, the physics were terrible, the level design was pretty bad and they were just not fun to play. If they didn't have fall damage or terrible enemy placement I wouldn't dislike them that much, though. They are one of those games where you can't say they are good unless you know nothing about game design (aka you're a kid) or you're dumb (aka you're a kid). I didn't play the 3rd one but it looks almost same with first 2 anyways. And then there's the legend Bubsy 3D, but everyone knows how amazing it is.

And honestly, while we didn't see much gameplay, I still have somewhat low expectations. First of all, the gameplay doesn't look very Bubsy like at all. The level design is completely different than the previous games, and Bubsy doesn't control like himself. In the original games, Bubsy was really slippery, fast and somewhat hard to control due to his broken physics. Here it's the complete opposite, stiff, slow and simple. While I prefer stiff and slow over fast and uncontrollable, now the game looks like a Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams sequel with a Bubsy skin. I wanted to say the environments look decent at least, but the character models and the lighting look like they are from an early Xbox 360 game, and the animations are just blegh.

But hey, at least it seems like it plays a lot like Twisted Dreams, which was way more fun than every single Bubsy game, but I also didn't think it was THAT great. So yeah...

EDIT: I think that only reason this game exists is that Black Forest Games needed a new IP for their new game, and they chose Bubsy because it's a somewhat popular meme now. They knew they couldn't sell a game with an original IP. And considering my Twitter timeline is full of Bubsy, I'm pretty sure it worked.

No, I actually mean it.

Bubsy in smash can bring many people's dream of having sonic beat him up and crash in smash can finally have sonic Mario and crash in one game.

I'm pretty sure Bubsy wouldn't consistently and constantly be renowned as one of the worst franchises of all time unless most people hated it.

To be fair, I really wouldn't consider the first two Bubsy titles to be absolute trash. The worst I can say is that they're saddled with godawfully inconvenient and awkward gameplay design, obnoxious voice clips, and ill-conceived "generic 90s game mascot" design; I can certainly think of many more games, even just those of the era, that would qualify far better as "absolute worsts". Bubsy 3D, however, is an irredeemably horrible game.

Yeah, but there ARE people that like it. After all, why would they make another bubsy game if everyone hated him?

they made another one because everyone hates him and they want to bank on the fact that everyone hates him and people will buy it as a joke, and/or let's players will inevitably buy and play it resulting in more people buying the game because they want to play it themselves.
