Deryk Buckarev is the artist, I believe. Lots of clear references to Mario here, Piranha Plants and Mushroom guys. The game is currently in development and has a fledgling kickstarter. It doesn't look like it will reach it's goal, but it's early. Still though, it's got a great style!

Mind putting these in spoiler tags? They're slowing the page down tremendously

I agree, Xander! This spritework is tremendously good. Well-animated, too. Reminds me of work by people like Konjak.

One of the most visually-appealing indie games I've seen lately. Nice backgrounds and fluid animations.

Seems like it's going to be a excellent indie game.

Well, what is the game featured anyways?

It looks pretty good, but it pales in comparison to the pixel art in Frogatto.

Cliax Codec is a combination of top-down and third-person shooter. The gameplay will blend platforming, puzzle and shmup elements together to create a unique gameplay experience. You will take control of four playable characters which rise against a team that seemingly wants to take over the world - but are their motives really that cliché, or are there deeper motives behind their actions?

@Vertette Hah, the camera does seem pretty decent!

The sad part is, it looks like he may not get funded. If you want to back the game, here's the kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pi ... ts/1867822

The game is almost at 60% funded, which is typically the magic number for Kickstarters. 98% of projects that reach 60% will go on to be fully funded.

For the last push to the finish line, there's a small contest. If you back the game at £10 or more and leave a comment with the name of a backer who referred you, you are both entered for a chance to help design a custom enemy in the game.

So if you were holding out to see if the game would get funded, now's a great time to back the project. And hey, if you want a chance at designing an enemy for the game, you can refer yours truly (David Clarke - Xand0r). :)

Oh, and there's a playable demo of the game on Game Jolt that you can check out:

Yeah, it's coming right down to the wire. But there has been some acceleration in the past few days.

As a final update to this thread, the kickstarter managed a strong finish:
£25,054 pledged of £20,000 goal

Woo!

I've played the demo this morning, and the gameplay is fairly nice, too. The combo system is certainly the heart of the game, and it's quite satisfying to lock in the air at one point and fire off the owl three times in a row. Figuring out which elements to use to clear as big a crowd as possible in one go is quite fun, too-very Megaman.

It is fascinating that a game with such an emphasis on pixel art is perfectly happy to ignore palette restrictions by using lighting.

Yeah, considering it looked like it would fail as a kickstarter, it was so polished!

Right? I thought it was a bit strange too!
