I don't care that it has Green Hills or Classic Sonic like others do, I only care about the physics being terrible and the level design catering to speed boosts and springs all the time. It's lazy and sloppy design that reeks of simply not caring about their property anymore, which is why we're probably going to get a better game in Sonic Mania when it comes to 2D Sonic.

Though even Modern Sonic has some issues, like the fact that you lose momentum when using homing attacks rather than carrying the forward momentum in Sonic Colours.

Prstty much this. If they can't even get the MUSIC right, then what's the point? Seriously, even MIGHTY NO.9 looks more better than this in both Sound and Gameplay.

Well, I hated generations due to how boring it was, so I won't like this.

It just felt like retreading old levels, and while that WAS the goal, it just felt like it shown how far sonic had fallen IMO. The story was just pathetic and souless too.

This.

What happened to actual platforming?!

Sonic Mania looks dope, though.

if thats how you wanna look at it then be my guest

im still holding my tongue for this game since this is the first level and its still noticably incomplete, just compare the nintendo direct build to the sega video build

Generations was simply OK until you got to the more modern stages like Sonic 360, then it just felt like a chore that'd overstayed its welcome, especially for Classic Sonic. Plus the boss battles were awful, especially that first one due to the janky physics of Classic Sonic. The missions were also completely terrible and only exist to pad a game that would've been a fairly short affair otherwise.

Most of the criticism in that game is because of Classic Sonic because he didn't feel like Classic Sonic at all.

both generations and colors get a lot of hate in sonic community so i wouldn't surprised with people being very prejudiced against sonic forces.

apparently, the screenshots are also from a different build so i think it's best not to believe that the final game will be exactly like the footages we got

Most of the rumors about that 3rd character being your own sonic fc are starting to be more true so, its probably not bubsy... even though everyone is probably going to make their character look like Bubsy anyway.

Just watched the newest Green Hill Zone gameplay. In its current state, this is a noticeable downgrade from Sonic Generations.

The lighting and background design are a little worse. The enemy animations are stilted and the physics of their death animations have a cheap Unity look. There's no change in camera angles and the copy-pasted Choppers at the end looked cheesy. Did I mention the music is incredibly aggravating?

I hope the game doesn't ship in this state. What we have is perfectly serviceable but there's a definite lack of polish.

to me, generations was one of the most replayable sonic games i've ever had the pleasure to own. while i agree that classic sonic turned out to be the weaker half, the modern levels were consistently strong and only rarely dipping in quality (i thought crisis city was a fine stage, rooftop run is excellent, planet wisp not so much)

if there were a game purely about modern sonic, modern sonic levels and with very little if any fluff (one thing i'll give generations is that while the missions were ultimately stupid, you only were required to do so many of them, and a good chunk of them gave you upgrades or were simple races anyway) then it'd be hooked. it's all they need.

i like the adventure formula, lost world could've been fine had it've been fully realized, but honestly out of the lot modern sonic has the most depth, period. the concept of a 3D platforming speedrunner is a niche that would be unique to sonic, much like how mario is essentially the only traditional 3D platformer left save for some recent revivals, and it's been fleshed out to the point where the only thing to do now is to have fun with it.

i don't expect anything out of classic sonic stages. frankly, we have mania. i couldn't care less if classic sonic is good in forces. if the bare minimum is a notch below generations, then it's still better than most recent games, sonic or otherwise. i want to see more out of modern sonic. if people don't like sonic to be with this formula then they should honestly get their heads out of the gutter and understand that this has the most mileage, both in the past and going forward. if they were to make a new adventure style game, great. i don't understand when people say that the games have little substance when the point is replaying to get a better and better time- again, it's a speedrunning game. in a way, this concept is more like what the original 2D sonic gameplay's goal was. you play through the level multiple times to get through it faster and faster. the fun is in self improvement and pushing yourself.

I agree. I'd love to see more games in the vein of Sonic Adventure. I played both SADX and SAB2 a long time ago and remember really enjoying them. Sonic Colors, too! They're all great games.

The problem, I think, is that the 3D mascot platformer has fallen out of style. They sit in the awkward era between retro games and modern games so they aren't seen as very marketable. But with the resurgence of games like Yooka-Laylee, A Hat in Time and Psychonauts 2, hopefully I'm wrong? This era is now old enough to be nostalgic so maybe we'll eventually see a Sonic Adventure 3 at one point.

It's like how we suddenly saw a resurgence of survival horror in the last few years. It takes a while for a genre to become "safe" enough for AAA developers to pursue them again. Until then, I guess we're going to have to live with the endless retread of the Genesis games.

Hope you "enjoyed" Classic Sonic's music, cause the rest of Classic's music will be like it. :shifty:

I just kinda feel like all of a $60 game should be good.
