A proper battle mode is really cool. If it includes that shine sprite stealing mode from Double Dash and new tracks, I will gladly purchase it again. Otherwise, eh.

Well, my excitement just went down for this.

I personally feel like 48 tracks was enough, but I guess it is weird that they're only adding battle tracks; you'd expect there to be some new regular tracks for a "Deluxe edition". Well at least Bob-omb Blast is finally back, as well as the Feather and Boo as items. Nice to see Nintendo remembered they existed. And Inklings were a pleasant surprise. [s]Now where's my GCN Wario Collosseum remake?[/s]

I mean, yeah, the game is full enough of features as is, but if it expects Wii U users to pay the full price again just for the inklings and battle mode, that's a bit much to ask.

The additions to it are all things that I think should've been in the Wii U version from the start, so it's a bit annoying to be expected to buy it again just to have the game everyone wanted in the first place. It's a kick in the pants for Wii U owners.

I feel jipped for purchasing Mario Kart 8 on Wii U with all DLC.

I purchased the game and all DLC as well, but I was convinced they were going to release a battle mode DLC down the line too after all the negative feedback they got, so it's really annoying that they just saved it for a port and are expecting me to buy it all over again. Would be nice if there were some kind of system where if you already own it you get a discount, but Nintendo isn't really in the habit of doing that kind of thing.

Eh, it's a bit disappointing but I'm p sure a big reason this is a thing is because they wanna provide people who skipped on the Wii U with the system's most popular game, packed with the DLC as a consolation. I didnt buy the original, just played a friend's copy, so I may pick this up, especially if more DLC comes out for it.

What's your point?[/quote] To be fair, porting a game to a newer console in such a short timespan is nothing new. Case in point: The Last of Us Remastered. If they're able to cram a ton of extra content into the game (such as, wishful thinking here, 32 new battle courses), I'd say this port is more than justified (along with the reason MoneyMan stated). The Treehouse stream hinted that Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast aren't the only modes in the game, so there's something. I'd love to see Shine Thief come back.

Honestly, what (admittedly little) I saw of the Treehouse showcase kinda shoved me from excited to being on the fence since it seems like they didn't fix the framerate drop for 4-player splitscreen. I would've wanted at least one of those: either more race tracks, or fixed framerate. Having neither killed my interest. If the new battle mode and arenas, new characters, et al were indeed once planned as DLC for WiiU, it kinda feels like a slap in the face to charge essentially full-price for those who bought the game and its original DLC already.

I'm sure that there will be more DLC with new tracks and characters coming after the release of MK8D.

...or, they're moving development onto MK9.

I can't see them releasing two Mario Kart games on one generation of console.

Prior to the Switch, you would never have guessed that we'd get a port of a Mario Kart game. Up until now, each game has been it's own entry in the franchise.
