I'm not set yet mainly because I seem to be one of the few who just didn't like Mario Kart 8. Something about it just never clicked with me. I LOVED Double Dash, still do, something about the games that followed just lacked the same personality. Plus even with the return of the PROPER battle mode, have they returned to the Last Man Standing format for Balloon Battle, or is there still a timer?
MK8 didn't quite "click" with me either; for me, it was due to the atrocious character choices, mostly bland new tracks (sacrificing depth or atmosphere for pretty visuals), the butchered battle mode, the horrendously restrictive multiplayer menus that force players to commit to their characters and karts (making local play with 5+ people a pain in the ass), and the almost total lack of genuine technique in the core gameplay compared to older installments.
Thinking about it now, I probably won't get MK8DX until it gets a good discount. What ultimately amounts to a DLC pack doesn't fix what is, for me, a very flawed game. The true battle modes help sooth one itch, but there are still some other major itches I don't think DX will scratch.
