Agreed. Sonic 3 feat. Knuckles is probably my favourite Sonic game ever, even above Sonic CD (which I know is some peeps' favourite but I feel like it just doesn't match the extravagance of S3K).

As far as additional characters in Sonic, I like having Tails as a playable character. I'm also with Coco in that I quite liked Advance 3 doin' the whole tag-team thing, though I'm not averse to something akin to Heroes as long as it's done better. I think in another topic I mentioned it'd be cool if they went with the Speed/Flight/Power trio thing but instead of playing as four distinct teams, you simply build a preferred team out of all the characters available, each one having their own strengths and weaknesses.

Say for instance, Sonic gets to keep the Blue Tornado as an aerial attack to send shields and other things flying into the air, but Shadow's Homing Attack has the longest range, Espio still has the whole "can cling to walls forever" during Triangle Jump, and I dunno Amy's Homing Attack does the most damage because of her hammer I guess?

It'd be a neat idea.

They were litereally released as individual cartridges though, so it's hardly a fact they can only co-exist and not be separate games. I will say, they're best enjoyed together, though.

I'm not too sure on that. It sounds like it could become too much of a cluster**** to me, personally, but I'll take your concept over playing the game four times to unlock the finale anyday. (Not that I ever did, because I hate Heroes so much I can't stand it past the first stage anymore).

The other reason I'm not too fond of your concept is simply because I think Heroes is fundamentally flawed, breaking the game up into the three characters. Stopping in my track to fly over some stupid pit or mashing buttons to kill enemies until I can finally proceed isn't exactly my idea of fun. Even if the playstyles were improved to the point of actually being good, I want to go fast in a Sonic game and I could only really do that as the Speed character in Heroes, so that's a problem to me. Compare that to Advance 3 for instance, where every character could go fast, they just had their trademark abilities with them.

For that reason alone, I never want to see the Heroes formula to be picked up again.

"Only" 3 playable characters. Also Generations was pretty much entirely made up of Classic stages but was still fantastic.

3 characters? Even better, I thought it was a "Sonic solo" game.

What's wrong with classic levels remakes? We've had plenty of zones designed to feel like a remake of a previous game level.

in that very same thread you linked there's an image of a tweet from who i think is one of the devs saying that you'd be surprised still with the level list.

also, what character would they even add, anyway? the only one i can think of is amy, and even then it's absolutely not a huge loss. sonic, tails, AND knuckles all in a game again is more than fine, the last game to have it set up that way was sonic 3 and knuckles, excluding handheld titles.

They said it before on it's first showing, so It's not a new thing. And the devs have mentioned that the remake zones will be very different and drastic compared to original zones (As if they are entirely new zones) and mentioned that Green Hill Zone is the tamest of the bunch.

So, don't lose hope in them.

But why would you want more than 3 characters? I think 3 is perfectly fine, since that most of characters are usually sonic or knux or tails clones. But, I kinda wish that they would have Amy as a playable character since that she's also a classic character and could have a pretty unique moveset with aerial attacks using her hammer.

'Could'? Sonic Advance did give her a proper hammer-themed moveset, and it's quite fun. There are some mods for the original three Sonic games on the Steam Workshop that add Amy as a character using her Sonic Advance moveset, and I would highly recommend them.

so amy is out of the question? seems like she would fit well since this looks like its taking a lot of cues from cd. really liked playing as her in sonic advance

There's a minor thing I do not like in this game, and it's Sonic's sprite. They did a fantastic job at it, but I just feel like we should of gotten an entirely new sprite for sonic, instead of the s1/s2 sprite...I mean, if knuckles could, why not sonic? :confused:
