WARNING: This is graphic and heavy, and touches on child abuse of more than one kind.

The first post in this topic is spoiler'd. No further posts have to be enclosed in spoilers; this first post serves as a buffer to anybody who doesn't want to be unwittingly exposed to this. Also, please don't link to any videos that you believe to contain illegal content. This topic is to spread awareness about the subject.

Spoiler:

What do you think about this?

In my opinion, children should be kept from these videos. I wholeheartedly believe that seeing this kind of disturbing content can stick with a child and normalize this behavior to them, or disturb them. Kids get nightmares from things that are on kids' channels despite strong standards. Imagine what seeing their favorite characters act like psychopaths might do. These videos are worse than anything Robot Chicken ever did to childhoods.

God, where do I even begin...

I honestly have no idea why YouTube is such a messed up place. Keeping these kinds of videos around where anyone can see them is very unneeded. Someone really needs to talk to YouTube administrators and tell them about this, because this has to be fixed so children can stop growing up like that.

I'd also like to say that people who do that kind of thing should be harshly punished. Showing children to something bad is one thing, but when it's stuck to such a heavy topic like that, you can't go out with just a slap on the wrist. You have to punish people doing such horrible things in a (maybe less) horrible way. Maybe they're just trying to do it for the laughs, maybe they're trying to do it because they like doing messed-up things. All I know is that they must be stopped.

I hope things like this can soon cease to continue, as it troubles me so that people can do such bad things to such young minds.

I've seen the videos talked about in the BBC report. They were recommended on my mom's iPad that my little sister had been watching youtube on unsupervised. Of course after discovering these videos she was supervised on the iPad. She's now old enough to both know not to watch those things, and to be out of the target range of those gross youtube channels, but during her phase where she watched a lot of "Egg surprise" videos she may very well have clicked on one of those disturbing videos (she claimed she hadn't so I hope that's true, but I know if I was a toddler and thought I'd get into trouble for watching a video I'd also deny watching it).

There does seem to be some weird trope about Disney princesses getting shots in the butt for some reason. The videos seem "technically" child appropriate but are disturbing all the same as a group of undoubtedly socially awkward adults dress as cartoon characters and act out bizarre scenes (search "Elsa vs Syringe," or "Rapunzel vs Syringe," or anything along those lines to find one). I have definitely seen the one described above, where Rapunzel is given a shot in the butt and becomes pregnant. The channel "SuperHero Real Life" is certainly guilty of these videos, and there are a bunch more that are so similar they seem to be made by the same people, only submitted under different generically titled channels.

As for the even more disturbing videos you mentioned, I've thankfully yet to see any of those - though I've seen some questionable thumbnails - but if I do I'd absolutely report them. I have seen a lot of awkward videos of very young Indian girls twerking and dancing very seductively for some reason, but I'm not sure if that warrants a report. Though here are always one or two adult men in the comments saying extremely vulgar things about them, and those comments I do report.

The moral of the story is:

Stop using tablets, phones and PC's as babysitters. It's fine to let your kids watch stuff in my opinion, but monitor what they're watching. Parents need to be aware of what their children are doing at all times.

YouTube needs to get its stuff together and crack down on people uploading actually explicit videos with keywords that attract children to them, especially if they're going to have a Kids section.

Parents also should be monitoring what their kids are watching though. Giving them full access to YouTube is just plain bad parenting. Sites like YouTube aren't meant to babysit your children.

I hope something is done about the situation and I agree, Youtube is not a babysitter for a developing toddler audience.

These videos made for children have always given me a vague creepypasta vibe, so... not terribly surprised.

i herd about this quite a while ago, and i have to agree with those who say that parents shouldn't use technology as a temporary/replacement babysitter.

i'm also skeptical about how youtube would handle a situations like this. my money would be on them trying to have videos taken down via automated systems, thus any video featuring a well known children's character that has any vulgarity in it, whether it be satire and/or not intended to be viewed by children, would be targeted as a result.

There wasn't even supposed to be kids on Youtube, they just lie their age.

Kids aren't supposed to have accounts, but they're still allowed to go on YouTube (if their parents let them)

If you think about it, kids probably shouldn't go on the internet at all until they're at a certain age. 13 is the magic number for everyone, as it's when kids turn into teenagers. Maybe, like, they can use some online services, but things like YouTube should be restricted until then.

That's just my opinion, though.

Excuse me, but what is it exactly about targeting children with disturbing and explicit videos that you seem to find hilarious?

Especially since there are reports of some videos going so far as to feature borderline CP.

How do you not find this hilarious? Tons of crackpots on Reddit are coming together to collectively design some of the most ridiculous conspiracy theories I've heard in my life (best stuff since PizzaGate), loads of people everywhere are over reacting to silly and weird Spiderman videos, and the nature of those videos are funny in and of themselves.

That's a non-argument. Soft core child porn is not inherently objectively bad afaik.

I suppose you mean that there is a loose definition as to what "soft core" porn is, but you might want to clarify that because this statement can be easily misconstrued

I agree thought that the videos (the ones of the awkward adults dressing as cartoon characters, not the child porn) themselves are really funny and some of the reactions are a little over the top, but I still don't like the idea of kids watching them because even I find some of them too disturbing and awkwardly sexual

Then maybe it would be useful to actually say that instead of saying it's hilarious.

Yesterday it was reported on by several major news outlets, including these three:

Clearly, the joke has entirely whooshed over my head and everyone else's, and we have no sense of humor.

While it is true that much (though not all) of /r/ElsaGate's community came from /r/conspiracy, and as such the subreddit is prone to wild conspiracy theories, is that a valid reason to dismiss the entire controversy as a joke?

Hmm.

HylianDev wrote:
They have an extremely disturbing tone and often include very inappropriate themes. Murder, sex, probable metaphors for sex (being given shots, sometime in the buttocks, and then being pregnant), playing with fecal matter, urinating on people, etc.

So you would say that exposing children to all of these things is just being silly? Would you say they are appropriate for children, considering they are seemingly the target demographic?

I spent a bit of time browsing /r/ElsaGate for a thread about one such video. I'm going to describe it below.

Spoiler:

Do you personally find this hilarious, Willsaber?

Looks like my little sister is watching nothing but the first season of digimon and simpsons now that youtube isnt even safe. Last thing I need is for her to become a ****ing furry.

I very much hope you have nothing against furries. I, myself, am one, and I can get "triggered" easily, as some people would say.
