If I handed you two cups of soda and asked you to identify it as Pepsi or Code by taste only, do you think you could?

I've been cutting back on sugar a lot lately (it kills more people annually than Michael Myers) but I've drank a lot of soda in my lifetime. I feel like I stand a good chance of identifying sodas by taste. Probably even a somewhat robust taste test including RC Cola, Dr Pepper vs Mr Pibb, heck maybe even throw in Dr Thunder.

I've spoken to other people about it though and nobody seems to feel the same way. Some people tell me they can't tell the difference in diet, or that Pepsi and Coke are identical to them.

Which side of the fence do you stand on?

Pepsi tastes sweeter than Coca Cola, even though Coca fills you more.

Their Diet variants are just sweeter versions of each, with a taste that resembles more to the one from sugar for some reason.

I can never tell between sodas. I might be able to distinguish a difference in a side-by-side test, but couldn't tell you which is which.

When I was 11 years old, I set up a Coke vs. Pepsi taste test at a Fourth of July cookout. Nobody knew which fizzy, sugary beverage they were drinking. We found that the two drinks are quite similar, but Pepsi is a bit sweeter and doesn't seem to stay in your mouth as long. Since then, we've done a number of other taste tests involving popular drinks - carbonated and otherwise.

Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb are very different from Coke and Pepsi, and I could immediately tell the difference. Sometimes store brands taste very different from the drinks they're trying to imitate, while sometimes the difference is insignificant - it depends on the drink.

Now HylianDev will have to invite himself the next time I have an Independence Day cookout.

Most sodas burn my throat so I avoid them. Ginger ale and root beers are the only ones that don't seem to do that to me for some reason, so that's pretty much all I drink in terms of sodas. I do like Dr. Pepper though, but it burns.
That said I probably could tell obvious ones apart, like Coca Cola and Sprite, or Pepsi and Sierra Mist, but I couldn't tell Pepsi and Coke apart, nor Sprite and Sierra Mist, probably because I don't drink them enough.

As someone who doesn't like or drink soda, I would guess there would be a difference.
I mean, there's always been the Pepsi Challenge, where you would try Coke and Pepsi, and people seem to find a difference in that.
I'm sure there's more differences than different waters.

I can tell a slight difference, other than that, I can't tell what soda is what, unless I visually see it or can identify the taste.

I like pepsi's initial taste but its aftertaste is too sweet imo. On the inverse Coke has a bigger bite at first but I really love the aftertaste. I try not to drink a lot of soda but when I do, whatever is fine.

I had this conspiracy that Pepsi and Coke were the same drink, and that the only difference was the label.
