I always wondered what people thought of sites like Roblox, and other kid-friendly ones that are taken as a joke these days. I'm 15 years old, and I still play it, yet I don't see anyone outside of it have any positive opinions of it. My question is, what do you think of games and websites that are mainly played by kids? Personally, I think that people have the choice of what they like and don't like, but sometimes peoples' opinions of things can go too far. Roblox is harshly judged by some people, all because it's meant for "little kids".

Please tell me your opinion, as I'd like to hear what people have to say about things like this. You can talk about other websites other than Roblox, like I said in the title of this topic. Roblox was only an example.

Honestly, Roblox got worse and worse over the years. But the worst part of Roblox intensified this year: SAFE CHAT. *cue the dramatic music...* It got EXTREMELY bad due to the news. Like, it'll censor NUMBERS. NUMBERS?! I mean, I can understand swearing being censored, but not half of the dictionary! Anyway, another bad part of Roblox is one of the latest updates...if a friend is in a server on a game, you HAVE to join that server. That means now you can't join an empty server, which is really hard to deal with when you're trying to join your friends. An example: if you wanted to play a specific game, you could only join your friends. What if they were in a full server? This could cause a DISASTER. You see, this is why it's a love-hate relationship with Roblox. It has great creators on it, and it's fun to play with friends (sometimes), but these updates make it worse. So yeah, my opinion on Roblox. Any other kid-friendly site I can't really look at because I barely even played them.

I used to play MapleStory back in 2000, up till 2009 or so. After those years I popped my head in to see what they were up to in terms of updates, but not anymore. Back then, I had faith the game had a great message: Interaction with a community, and the creation of the adventure by those interactions. Put simply the game was so difficult it took nearly a week to get one level up at around like, level 40 (second job was level 30 back then, giving you a second set of skills to use); Think 10% for 1 hour, at every level. I think the highest I had was about 54 Cleric (not even third job, and a support class), and that to me was kind of crazy back then, especially when I saw that people could surpass that. But, the formula worked in my opinion, and persisted until whoever directed of the game thought it should be more "casual" to me it felt like it had made the game fall by the wayside to be burned like the rest of the trash. I'm sorry for this statement, but it hurt me to see some of the changes that were not needed.

"Don't fix something that ain't broke!"

Moving on. This game, to others, seemed like it was meant for kids; To me, it was not... In reality it opened my eyes to what games could be--A means for escape, but also understanding, compassion, empathy, and A LOT of other positive and negative charges that seems to create something that was meaningful to me at the time, and now even today. It taught me to be a good person--It taught me to understand myself.

On Roblox, I never played it before. However, to each their own. KirbyLover2048, if you are to understand your heart, and you like this game, like it. Listen to others, but do not let them make you feel a different way...

I feel there's nothing in particular wrong with games that are kid-friendly or that kids really like. If they suck, it's probably because they just... well, suck.

I haven't ever tried Roblox, but nor have I been terribly interested in doing so.

Just to clarify, I used Roblox as an example in this situation, saying how too many people judge kid-friendly games for being "for babies", when in reality, I know people who are teenagers who play Roblox, not to mention I'm one of them.

The point is, you can talk about any game you want that's kid-friendly, as what Yakibomb did with MapleStory, but I don't want everyone to always talk about Roblox in this topic. You can if you want, though. It's your choice.

Also, I mean, technically, this is a forum about Mario. Mario is, in itself, a very kid-friendly game.

Kid-friendly websites and online games were always a strange concept to me because in order to access them you'd have to allow your kid access to the internet, which is pretty much the least kid-friendly thing to ever exist. Sure, they may start out only browsing these kid friendly sites but someone is going to link them something or talk about something that will lead them elsewhere unless you're watching their every move or block access to websites.

Fun fact: I was first exposed to porn when I was looking for Sonic the hedgehog fan game resources on a search engine, which should have been a pretty innocent search. However, because "safe search" was listed as a feature for this search engine, my parents assumed it was on by default when it actually was not.

I think kid-friendly websites are an illusion that mislead parents to believe that their kids are safe when they probably should monitor their children's activity anyways.

Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo GameCube is the greatest fighting game ever created so I think I like kid-stuff. Plus I'm a kid so yeah.
Joking aside, I don't play Roblox and Minecraft because they are boring. Maybe if they were fun then I would.

Mario is quite the kid game franchise, but I have no problem with it.

Still, I don't know how to feel when I know that my friends prefer playing games like The Last of Us and other gorey crap. They hate the Big N because it's "kiddy" and has far less power than its rivals in terms of consoles, and because of its stupid fanbase, so I don't talk frequently about it with them. People here look far more "grown-up" or "edgy" for playing Sony and Microsoft stuff. If you tell them you play Nintendo stuff, they'll laugh out loud. Tell them you like playing Kirby and they will literally explode (I don't play Kirby tho, because I also think it's "for kids", and I'd really look stupid if I played it in front of them).

I'm actually having some difficulties trying to get non-Nintendo games because I focus too much on Mario.

I think I have to be honest when I say that, if a game is "kiddy" but not from Nintendo, I won't play it.

Minecraft is only fun with friends. In my humble opinion.

I pretty much only play kid stuff, or st least most often
Even indie games are mostly childish but they're fun as hell

I also get the same treatment of people saying Nintendo is for babies. Maybe I should show them Earthbound...

You would not be helping your case,

show them Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival instead.

The gameplay for it is absolutely fantastic, and since it's Animal Crossing, it's total hardcore.

Boy, Roblox.

I spent so much of my life on Roblox. I started in late 2008, and I was a regular Roblox player until like 2011.

I've played it a few times since then, but not a lot. It really is for kids. Not that I'd want to discourage someone who wants to play it from doing so, but most of the fun I had was with socializing, and it's just not fun to talk to people on Roblox when you're not their age lmao.

roblox is a surprisingly solid platform for making actual levels and whatever (not unlike LBP but roblox lets you actually code things) but the userbase has gotten used to absurdly low quality levels to the point where actually well made levels are a complete outlier.

the older you get with it the more fun you could have with it if you take it less seriously, which is definitely easy due to the aforementioned low quality levels being everywhere.

I agree, Mit. One of my friends actually uses Roblox for making stages for a game known as Sonic World. It's a fully-working 3D Sonic game that has tons of characters to choose from, and with Roblox's model exporting, allows you to insert custom stages, hence why he uses Roblox in the first place.

Model exporting? Wow!

When I played, stage building was way more primitive. I literally remember when they introduced different materials. Originally we just had plastic. And the materials didn't even do anything different, I assume they do now? I heard there was water at some point.

I remember when body types happened too. And when vehicles became standardized. You had to script your own back in the day. I'm a programmer now, but I never got into Lua scripting on Roblox outside of that one game that let you chat your lua scripts.

I was annoying and would actually just type up scripts for kicking people, lol. I was a bad kid sometimes.
