Brought this topic up in other places as well, but I've always enjoyed conversing about it. :D

We can't really deny it: We love villains and evil within entertainment. It goes against the more sensible aspects of our natures, embracing the darker sides of our personalities and morals, turning people and characters into truly repulsive and contrasting entities of malice. For every good hero we love, there's an evil that holds just a similar place within our hearts; if not more.

In this topic, I'd love to see/hear you guys talk about why you enjoy villains in general entertainment (books, movies, and games alike). Alongside that, feel free to mention specific things/characters that you personally enjoy. Should interest arise, perhaps I'll take some time and jot down my own thoughts for you guys to see then as well, but for now, feel free to intrigue me (and others) with your stories. ;)

Well, I don't really love any villain as much as heroes (or whatever you call the good guys) myself. Though if it wasn't for them, games, movies, books, or whatever wouldn't be interesting because you would just have the main character doing nothing interesting all day, so we have to give the villains credit for that. :P

There was someone I knew who really really liked villains, to the point where they had to be absolutely perfect to him or they fell down a long, winding tier of villainy or something like that. He would constantly rant about various works and how the bad guy should do this or the good guy shouldn't do that or what you have; he was quite passionate about that sort of thing, I guess. He used to do that ranting thing all the time in this group chat I used to be a part of, and it would get annoying quick. I have since left, but he's more than likely still doing it >_>

But what about moe villains?
In many cases, villains are the characters we love to hate. But then there are also villains that have more serious backstories involving a tragic past that twisted them into the dark persona they've become.

Oftentimes the villains are deeper, better developed, more interesting characters than the heroes. Ganondorf, for one.

As Kritter is modelled, I prefer the anti-hero archetype above good / evil. Aims to do what's right and what's needed, regardless of consequence.

I prefer a villain that does wrongdoings based upon envy or jealousy.

often villains are dark and tormented, with an unquenchable thirst for blood.

The elder scrolls for example, The dark brotherhood are some of the most f**ed up characters in the entire game,
they worship an apparent god of murder "Sithis"

I agree with some of you guys above. I personally see a deeper, darker, and more interesting story behind most villains I find interest in. Heroes, at least in most situations, don't seem to share such an attention to personal detail in this regard over a villain, which makes their character simply less interesting. Especially since that said story the villains have normal revolves around material or experiences more removed from the on-looker.

That and some funny/insane villains are always a scream. I'm working a show at work right now that has a few hilarious villains in it. Whether it's for kids or adults, a good, classic villain can always amuse. XD
