Does anyone know how to fix a corrupted .zip file? When i backed up some files a while ago i guess i zipped up a bunch a files wrong. The zip is large (135mb) so im sure something can still be saved. When i attempt to unzip it, a window pops up saying the folder is empty though.... When i attempt to just open it, a pop up says its invalid.

Usually Zip corruption signifies that it was transferred improperly, or incompletely.
tools such as 7-zip, or WinRAR should have a repair function built in, however, ive only seen this work on very rare occasions.

Well that sucks...I can open it in a hexEditor and view stuff. I had the idea of downloading 7Zips source code and attempt to decompress parts of the file manually buut that would probably take a while to learn the source and stuff so i think ima just have to recreate what i lost =/...................Although knowing how to decompress files manually would be a plus in order to make the game's content size smaller by compressing them.

that actually does sound like good knowledge to have on hand really.

also,
i forgot to note this before, but, ive also come across some that wont work with one compression utility, but will with others. and vice-verse.
though, considering you, im guessing you have already tried this, yes?

Yeh i tried using a few different decompressing utils and they all failed. From what i remember, when i made the backUp, i was having trouble uploading it to dropbox. So im not surprised that its a bit messed up. Im sure i can recover something though.

alright,
Ive found a tool that "MIGHT" or "MIGHT NOT" work. Its called Zip2Fix.
http://leelusoft.blogspot.com/2011/06/zip2fix-10.html
http://www.mediafire.com/?h6l4lb620pqrbba

I figure at the very least its worth a shot.
you might be lucky and recover something with it.

I'm afraid i don't have any corrupted zips to test on though.

It worked! Although i couldnt save everything, it extracted 138 files out of 527. Atleast i was able to save something. Thanks Nite.

No worries. Looking at what wasn't extracted in hexEdit, i think i can extract more manually.

Sounds like things are still looking up in that aspect at least,

im actually kind of interested in the process of manual file extraction, and how it rates as a viable means of data recovery.
Would it be asking too much to fill us in on this process? (or starting a new thread about it?)

Oh no lol. I think theres some misunderstanding. Im not even sure if its possible yet since i don't even know how to decompress/compress files yet. I just thought it might be since i can view the compressed data within the corrupted zip. I would need to make a small tool so i can attempt to decompress each segment within the zip alone. I don't think the data itself was corrupted, probably just the file headers.

When i backed it up, I didnt zip everything in one go. I zipped many small folders and then zipped everything into one folder so i can upload to dropbox. I didn't have a problem zipping the smaller folders which is why i think the data itself is fine.

Well, updated my Intel HD Graphics 3000 recently. Now games runs very smooth, even in medium graphics details. But...about every 2 minutes into any 3D games (even Halo 1) it laggs about 5 FPS. I understand that Intel HD Graphics 3000 can run Halo 1 with the best setting with the best details without any lags and all of my games like Black Ops 2 runs very good on my graphics before I fresh reinstall my OS.

Notice: any 2D games with the best graphics details does lag at all.

that might just be background processes,
have you tried killing some of the less important ones in the task manager before starting your game?

I've already got rid of background programs, plus Aero interface. Stopped some services and still lag at random time.

thats strange,

and still the same result from any 3d game despite settings?

This has me stumped...

only things i can really think of are either the GPU itself, or 3d driver software.
have you tried altering the global settings in the driver?

Yep, I switched it to performance. It's not the GPU's fault. I tried many kind of drivers (From Sept 2012 - most recent) but non of them works well. Before I reinstalled my OS, it runs very smooth.

Ok, so a few months ago I moved into a new house. Since then, my computer has been unable to connect to our wireless network. The network shows up on my computer as being a very strong (4-5 bar) signal. However, whenever I try to connect to it, I get an error simply stating that it was unable to connect to the network. I have tried and tried, but nothing seems to allow me to connect wirelessly. I am able to access the Internet through a wired connection, but this is very inconvineient due to the location of the Ethernet port.

Also, my computer doesn't have any trouble connecting to other networks. Every other device in the house is able to connect to my netwok, so I have reason to believe that something is wacky in my connection settings or that I am somehow being blocked from my own network.

Oh, and my computer is a Windows 7 64-bit laptop.

Any ideas?
