Not gonna submit an application, since I'm kinda afraid that school will take up a lot of my time soon-ish.
Hopes up to you all (possibly)future mods.

Today is the last day to submit your application! If you're interested in the position, be sure to apply as soon as possible. Even if you think you're a longshot, it never hurts to try! We'll spend a short time reviewing each application. We expect to announce our decision sometime early this week.

Cap'n Coconuts wrote:
So how many times do I have to say "VINNY IS THE BEST ADMIN EVER" to automatically win?

As many times as possible.

When I saw the topic title I thought it was to be MFGG's next top model and I got excited.

I already know enough models in real life. I need more mods instead of models!

Cap'n Coconuts wrote:
Out of curiosity, is it possible that more than one person will be promoted?

We plan to promote at least one person who has never been a staff member before. I doubt we'll promote more than two people, though.

Kritter wrote:
Is there an actual hiring criteria beyond "he's a cool dood / friend of mine, would make great mod yo" this time around?

Yes. There 17 qualities we're looking for in candidates for this position. Basically, we want people who have communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the time and commitment to stay active.

Karen Kujou wrote:

Posting in Forum Games doesn't hurt you. What we care about is whether you post actively and meaningfully in a variety of forums, since all moderators are global mods.

Karen Kujou wrote:
Would my vast experience in running forums help?

Having extensive experience running other successful forums could help your application. We're primarily looking at your contributions to the MFGG community, though.

Well, VinnyVideo said they should be submitted no later than September 6th. You should be good, though there is going to be quite a bit of competition.

Everyone always wants a piece of the moderator pie, it's not as much fun as it sounds though which a lot of people tend to find out. These days it's pretty harmless though, but back in the volatile days it was a chore to moderate this place.

Yeah, I know that. I've had experience moderating other forums and MMO clans, and maintaining order in a community is not always fun.

On the plus side, if someone is causing trouble you have the ability to end it quickly. :)

You'd think that'd be the case but you have to be a bit more diplomatic and look at it from all sides before taking action. Even if you hate the person who's giving you grief, you can't just go "you're annoying" *Banhammer*. If this was the old days of PPP madness you'd have a lot more to deal with but as I say, this place is so docile now you new mods will probably have very little work to actually do.

Yes. We evaluate how well the application is written, communication skills, activity, maturity, the will to keep events active and interesting and the motivation to move the forums forward.

Some of which are probably also the reason why you are not staff anymore.

I think both of you need a spanking and a time-out >=(

Hey mine was just an honest question about hiring criteria, which I thought might be important for those applying to know. At least Vinny was Admin enough to give me a straight answer (without the snippy addition presented in Coco's response), that's why Vinny is the better Admin.

Well, I was talking about the more overt stuff--but yes, diplomacy is a must for keeping things running smoothly.

A final decision will happen very soon. Hang in there.

We had 25 applicants this year, which is approximately the same number we had for the 2013 mod applications and the 2014 QC applications.

I remember in the past, former staff members said that everyone wanted to become a moderator, but once they got the job, they didn't enjoy it. The MFGG forums are a much more peaceful place today, fortunately. If you're a moderator on the mainsite, you can expect to receive a nasty message every blue moon, although those tend to be more amusing than anything.

This is generally the case. There are a couple of members who keep getting banned for blatantly violating the rules but won't stop making dupe accounts. (Also, what Kritter said.)

Lastly, I forgot to mention the most important consideration in mod candidates: the ability to transition from squid to kid, and from kid to squid.

Oh it definitely was the case. Quite a few people came and went into power during my tenure and most would say it wasn't exactly their best experience here. For me it was as double-edged a sword as you can get when it comes to how I felt about it.

TD might be MFGG's father but I always felt like I adopted it as my baby and nurtured it as best as I could and poured my heart and soul into trying to give it a good future. Still, being a parent can be a pretty thankless job and sometimes you have to make tough calls just to keep your child in line and teach them right from wrong, even if they hate you for it at the time!

/deep

As you say, these days it's pretty darn peaceful compared to the MFGG of yesteryear so there's really nothing to worry about for new moderators.

Luckily, I can transform from kid to squid, but I have to have surgery to go from squid to kid. :(

My mod experience has been overall positive. It could possibly even have improved my MFGG experience, actually. So the former woes aren't really around anymore I guess.

MFGG is pretty chill nowadays, but there's still more to being a mod than just moving and locking topics.

I'd say the worst of it was from about 2003 onwards, on and off right up to the split. After that the place kind of mellowed out, losing the PPP definitely helped as well. MFGG had its moments that made you want to nuke the place back in the day (or your account for that matter!!). These days, concepts such as "flame wars" sound immature and silly.
