the problem with using an emulator for online is that you run the risk of desync and lag.
I think we should take advantage of Brawl and MKWii while we can, then move on to MK7, and eventually Smash 4 and MK8

I don't think a Wii U is $400 anywhere. NSMBU doesn't have online either, and Miiverse doesn't play much of any role in online play. with the aforementioned Smash and Mario Kart on the way, there's little reason to not get one, to be honest.
