We could do NES Remix-style gaming competitions involving games that are really easy to find/emulate (i.e., the NES version of Donkey Kong), so lots of people can participate. Also, everyone can record footage using whatever screen capturing methods they have.

Except in Brazil (and possibly higher than that, too), thanks to inflation.

It's $600 in Turkey.
That's why we shouldn't play games on a console.

we could do games on a console, it's just that not everyone can participate. seems kinda lame to rule out all sorts of games just because some people don't have access.

I would recommend either multiple games in one gaming competition and/or people vote the game for the competition. People tend to like options nowadays.

"Gaming" means "playing a game", then? I'd be interested that if the game is free/libre software. Like SuperTux, SuperTuxKart, or Secret Maryo Chronicles. (None of those are online, but they all have timers.)

This. I'd recommend doing one of the older Nintendo multiplayer games while we still can. They'd also be accessible to most of MFGG, as most of us have a Wii, and these games could be acquired for a pretty low price.

A photo competition is another idea I like a lot.

Also, what would a "photo" competition be? See who takes the best pictures of something?

Has anyone has forgotten that Nintendo has already shut down the Wii and DS multiplayer service?

It looks like you hail from the future, because that article you linked to says it will shut down on May 20. Check your calendar; that's two months from now. Best return to your own time before you change history too much, eh? :P

I was wondering this too.

Also, on the topic of gaming competitions, just because a few people don't have a certain game doesn't mean that you can't still use that one. People can sit out if they don't already have or want to buy the selected game.

As for the gaming option, maybe we could play fangames/free indie games. Everyone can access them easily and they are free. Though, there's lack of free multiplayer fan/indie games, unfortunately.

Someone could make an online multiplayer fan game for this type of thing.

I think we should grab some sort of program that can work as a tournament grid. something we could use for all games to make things easier

I would personally prefer to do an "official" game instead of a fangame for the competition. Just my opinion.

Also, this:

I just had came up some suggestion that we can create stuff, we could try do some DIY special comps as well?
It can be made with anything or certain materials under a theme. And we can take photos and tell us more about your work.

Something else that could work nicely for gaming tournaments would be one of the Pokemon netbattler thingies. Those are free and work well even on older PCs.

I'd like to bring up the idea I had of the special competition involving creating statues of me.

3D modeling sounds like it would fit better with the creative theme of the competitions instead of a gaming skill thing. (also I suck at video games)
