The purpose of this topic is to create a pool for special competition ideas.
It comes with a multi-vote poll, that will constantly be updated, with the option to change your votes at any time to gauge interest.

Add suggestions in here.

How would you handle cooking or did you just put that one up there for fun? Anyway, 3D modelling sounds cool.

^I guess baking would be more interesting here. Since we can't taste what other people cooked, it'd be all about the visuals. You'd bake a cake and make it look really pretty :D

If we can add our ideas to the poll, I'd suggest taking photos as a competition. Participants can put up interesting photos, and the most liked photos win. It could be photos from nature, your city, funny photos you took etc.

Posting my thoughts about Special Comps
Cooking comp sounds quite neat, but I don't know if cooking comps will be successful with the MFGG community. But I'm interested in how it turns out.

3d modelling sounds very nice comp, but there's lot's of Mfggers in the community that don't really have any sort of experience with 3d modelling from my opinion.

Gaming might be a good idea, but there's lot's of games that are either not free. We may need to plan very carefully when it comes to paying games and free games.

^Added the photo option. Unfortunately it seems each time the poll is edited, all the votes go away :(
Maybe we should collect ideas first, then have a poll.

Or, since the special competitiom will happen around Easter, it could be something about the holiday.

EDIT: Or maybe not.

All of these are fairly interesting but I doubt they're all something everyone can compete in.

^Hence a poll, so MOST people can compete. Can everyone compete in Spriting/Drawing/Music/Minigame Competitions?

While not exactly everyone's territory, they're easier to compete in than in 3D Modelling/Cooking for example. However, Gaming and 3D Modelling still sound very nice and I'd definitely enter a 3D competition (maybe).

^Everyone can model in 3D, just like everyone can draw and sprite (or create games or music, for that matter). It's just a skill very few people have used, because there was no reason to do so. The idea behind a 3D modelling competition is to get people to try out 3D modelling software and toy around with it a bit. Once the ice is broken, I'm convinced some of those that used modelling software for the first time in this competition will keep doing it and we may be able to initiate a 3D model library on the mainsite and further down the road see 3D fangames.
If someone here has already done 3D models, I'd also welcome tutorial topics where it's explained how to create simple models, how to texture, how to rig them and how to animate.

The problem with 3D modelling is that it's pretty tough to get into, though, unlike spriting or drawing for that matter.

I'd definitely be interested in a 3D modelling competition, but I think that maybe the first one should be something more "generic", such as gaming.
As far as gaming goes, I think it would be interesting to maybe have a sort of "speed run" competition, where everyone has to post a video of them playing a level or certain portion of a game the fastest... Just a thought...

3D Modelling sounds fun except I would need to do everything a bit generic and shaped-based or something... so I'm not really good at it (I made that Supernova model you saw in my vids BTW)
Also, how will Gaming possibly be?
We play a multi-player online game? lol

Yes, a speed or score competition would be a fun alternative to classic multiplayer tournaments.
e.g. something like that NSMBU Miiverse challenge where Nintendo challenged everyone to complete the whole game with collecting the smallest amount of coins possible.

Gaming is a great idea. But playing something like a Wii U is not a bright idea, I will not waste $400 just for a pointless game like NSMBWiiU and I dislike MiiVerse in my opinion. I recommend playing multiplayer off from emulators, it's free and easy to configure.

Yeah, playing a game with project 64k would be nice.

the problem with using an emulator for online is that you run the risk of desync and lag.

I think we should take advantage of Brawl and MKWii while we can, then move on to MK7, and eventually Smash 4 and MK8

I don't think a Wii U is $400 anywhere. NSMBU doesn't have online either, and Miiverse doesn't play much of any role in online play. with the aforementioned Smash and Mario Kart on the way, there's little reason to not get one, to be honest.
