Well, with that, I think it is safe to wrap this topic up.

The janitor was here and cleaned up the topic. I never thought I'd ever have to type the following words, because the thought that it's not obvious to anybody is so absurd, but:
Nobody should take the TD statue that seriously to fight over it. It's just a joke.

so how come every one voted for Psycho Waluigi, even though they also played the other ones?

onpon4 wrote:
Psycho Waluigi's level design is good. Again, though, it doesn't stand out to me. Others should get just as much recognition.

it stands out to me over the others - and apparently stood out enough to every one else

onpon4 wrote:
Psycho Waluigi is very polished. But again, so are many others, such as Midas Machine (again).

once again, though others played, why did they vote for Psycho Waluigi, etc etc

onpon4 wrote:
Psycho Waluigi's story was uninteresting and forgettable to me. Waluigi is on some island and there's a psychic cloud of some sort. That's not to say there's something wrong with it, and I'm sure it deserves the recognition, but it might not be the only one (I only say "might" because I didn't read the story of Midas Machine much, and the only other game I know of with any real story is my own game, so I'm dodging bias here).

even though i was like "oh come on WiTT Episode 2 had a great story even though it had crap presentation for it," i could still see Psycho Waluigi having a great story... you sure you played the game?

like all the way through?

onpon4 wrote:
Psycho Waluigi's concept is a good one, but I feel games such as Bloop Rinse and Red Scare have just as good concepts.

yeah you know i have to bring up the same thing i've said twice now

essentially, they're people voting, so unfortunately, even though you have your opinion, the awards says "yeah, other people are believing otherwise," and there's not much you can do about it

Yeah Opon4, votes are counted. There's no way to change the awards or modify votes now.

Maybe it has something to do with the popularity thing as stated before

I highly doubt that. Not everyone thinks it stood out, probably most though.

The reason PW got so many votes is because it went the extra step to make it feel like an official game. Don't get me wrong, the other games are great, but PW does things differently and it made for a nice change that earned it those extra votes.

It's story was carried throughout the game and balanced, keeping you engaged without going overboard.

The gameplay was easy to learn but still original and fun.

The level were interesting, either introducing a new gimmick that you would then get to play with in different ways (instead of doing the same thing over and over again), or the levels would use crazy locations.

Level designs were perfect in the game. It would rarely have to show you what to do directly, instead leaving it up to you to figure things out, but it would still have subtle elements that would push you in the right direction, even if you didn't realize they were in play.

The writing in the game is amazing. If you haven't played through it completely you may not know this but Psycho Iris has some of the best dialogue I've ever seen.

The game offers clear extra content that can still be challenging to get, but in a way where you always want to strive to do better. Replay value like this works well as apposed to having additional content given to you just for beating the game as this method of reward is earned by the player. The player not only earns the reward but they have fun trying to get a higher score.

The game uses a lot of new graphics, not just in terms of the sprites themselves, but also in terms of content. New enemies and what not make this game feel fresh and inviting.

The multiple styles of play, be it on foot, tank, plane, or any of the levels in World 0 keep the game from being boring as it's constantly changing things up.

So yeah, I'd say PW earned all the votes it got, and again, nothing against the other games, but when you add it all up, PW really went the extra mile which I believe is why it came out on top.

I think you best ask the general public that came to NCFC 2011, as they voted PW as the best Mario game there. (I can't recall if it was that or AM2R which was the best in show, though)

I don't think he was asking because he was curious, I'm pretty sure he was leading you all into giving yourselves an answer. In this case, why is it popular? The answer: because it's good.

Basically, what Chaoxys said. PW earned its awards because it consistently goes the extra mile in every aspect of its design. Sure, TD is a popular guy, and it helps that his game was widely played, but all of the awards seemed pretty reasonable in my opinion.

everyone chose what they chose,
they all had a decision to make, and it was up to them to decide how to make it,
and if they decided based on popularity, a flip of a coin, or a roll of dice,
well, that was their decision, now wasn't it?

I fail to see how any decision, despite how it may have been made,
could be deemed unfair.

Judging to my recent mfgg events. It seems less number of votes than previous years?

This is the 2nd year after the split. It's true that we had more votes before the split.

We had one vote more than last year though.

So..... voting by flipping a coin is fair?

See Wiiboy, you took that way too literally. I seriously doubt anyone did that, but it doesn't matter, what people picked is what they picked, so yes, whatever method they went through to pick a game is indeed fair. The only way it would be unfair is if TD was begging for votes, and I can tell you right now that he's above doing something like that.

Seriously, everyone stop complaining, he won fair and square.

...and this is why it would be better off if this topic is locked. That way, if people want to complain, they have to do it elsewhere.
