Real horses don't run into trees
MFGG Awards 2011
2011 is over, now it's time to remember the greatest games and fangamers of that year. Please excuse my lazyness, but the rest of this post is pretty much the same as last year
The veterans among you know how this works, for everyone else a short introduction: MFGG Awards consists of two important phases: Nomination phase Voting phase
First you nominate a name (in the individual categories) or a game title (in the games category) for each category. Then the 5 people/games with the most nominations per category get set up for the final voting. After this, we have winners and will announce them. The winners receive an MFGG Awards 2011 badge. Who knows, somebody might even nominate you!
Here is how the nomination phase works: 1. Copy this list of categories: Spoiler:
Individual: BEST SPRITER Who consistently makes great sprites?
BEST COMPOSER Who's the guy who can make you feel all kinds of emotion through his music?
BEST REVIEWER So thorough and helpful!
BEST ENGINE MAKER For the member whose engines make you feel like you are playing an official game.
MOST POSITIVE CONTRIBUTOR Who does the most and best work for MFGG and the forums?
JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES This guy's good at just about everything.
MOST HELPFUL Always there to point you in the right direction.
Fan Game: BEST GAME OVERALL There can be only one.
BEST NON-MARIO GAME Because even Mario Fan Games Galaxy has some non-Mario stuff.
BEST DEMO The stipulation for this award is that the game you nominate cannot have been yet released.
BEST MINIGAME So maybe it's not a full game, it's still awesome.
BEST SPRITES I love those M&L ninja rabbits you used!
BEST ENGINE Wow, this feels just like a real game!
BEST LEVEL DESIGN Because nothing is worse than an impassable chasm.
MOST POLISHED Everything about this game is great.
MOST OVERLOOKED For that diamond in the rough that people haven't seemed to find yet.
MOST ORIGINAL GAMEPLAY Whoa, this is new and exciting!
MOST REPLAY VALUE Let's play again!
MOST ANTICIPATED We just can't/couldn't wait for it.
BEST STORY I was so involved!
BEST CONCEPT Not your standard Mario-rescues-the-princess game.
BEST SECRETS They just keep you searching. And it paid off with awesomeness incarnate.
BEST SETTING Because your standard grassland gets boring now and again.
BEST USE OF SITE RESOURCES Special thanks to MFGG.
BEST BOSSES This game's bosses really stand out!
Please note: There is a new category added this year. Best Bosses! This is to honor great bosses in last year's games and encourage you to put thought in the bosses you put in your new games
2. Enter ONE name per category Please enter the name instead of the description, and leave the categories in this order. This makes it easier for us to count the nominations.
Nominations end on Saturday, Jan 21st, MIDNIGHT (so we can tally up on the weekend and give the results and instructions for the Voting Phase).
You have to put names in at least HALF of the categories. If a category has not enough nominations, it might be left out this year. However, please try to nominate for as many categories as possible and don't just stop half way through.
I have experienced so many MFGG Awards by now that it's a routine for me, so I'm sure I have left out some important details. So please ask questions if you're unsure, thank you!

No offense, and this isn't specifically directed at you, but I find it slightly appalling that at MFGG, someone always seems to need to ask if they can nominate/vote for themselves for competitions and awards. (I was bound to point this out sooner or later; sorry that it had to be when you asked.)
I wasn't going to do something like nominate myself in every category if I could. I was just wondering. Anyways, I sent mine in!
I assume we can't nominate out own game?
I don't really see the big deal with people nominating/voting for themselves. If they really think they're the best for that category then why not? I mean the policy doesn't bother me or anything but if it's such a bad thing that even asking about it is a big deal then...

But will it be like last time how few things I nominated got accepted into finals? Because, this may put you off, but I don't want to nominate it if it's not going to make it into finals. Or is it only if the game is popular? Because I feel urged to vote for 1 game for several categories.
Also, do they have to be like, on the main site, or on the forums? Also are we only allowed to vote for a game once?
Awesome!

1. you can't nominate yourself. 2. Per category, only the 5 most nominated games get through. 3. You are only allowed to nominate games that were made in 2011 and are on the main site or the forums. 4. You can nominate the same game in all categories if you feel like it. 5. Also why do you not want to nominate a game that's not going to make it to the finals? That makes no sense, because that way you're reducing that game's chances even more.

Because like last time some of the games I nominated didn't get in and I had no idea why.

Then you either nominated a game not enough other people nominated, or you nominated a game of your own or you nominated a game that was too old.
Or we just don't like you and that's why we don't let some of your nominations through on a random basis.

Didn't nominate my own game, and the game(s)/nominee was from 2010. So it's probably the first one. (BTW, maybe someone told me something like that before and I forgot so if so then my mistake)

It's part of a vast anti-Wiiboy conspiracy... because we know you'd take over the universe if we let you.
Something gives me a sneaking suspicion that a certain game by our founder is going to win a lot of these awards.

Tip: Look at the games released on the main site in the past year, and download and play the ones that have earned good reviews or seem interesting to you. My 2011 Game of the Month articles could you also point you in the direction of some of the more enjoyable games.

Thanks, Vinny, that was helpful!
