That's why I made an index page. It's supposed to keep this list short.
http://wiki.mfgg.net/wiki/index.php/Category:Index

MFGGWiki -> Templates -> Messages (though it should be called ""Message Templates")

People do have a nasty habit of putting things in the wrong place, but things aren't really going to get any more simple than that, really.

That is ... not really a valid response to my post, which was about specific articles (e.g. express-purpose templates) whose categories' proper names I am not aware of; i could navigate the index, or i could continue contributing actual content while other people (who don't exist since i am the only active editor of the wiki atm) fix things i missed and forgot

In theory, the Index category should serve only one purpose, and that is to contain the categories which are so broad that they cannot go in any other category, for accessibility. The page that contains every category ever is here.

Therefore, the index would do next to nothing for "uncategorized categories", because said categories either go into categories lower than the index, or have been discontinued and should be deleted :x

On a related note, Mediawiki allows you to place both articles and categories within a category, but for ease of navigation and aesthetic reasons, it's advised you do not do that and only have one or the other in any given category

This is why I added categories such as "All games", which has no further category under it and is listed under category "games", which has no game pages directly listed under it but has all the games subcategories

We also have a bad habit of inconsistent category names, e.g. we have "MFGGers from Japan", but "Members with a Happy Heart Badge", my vote's on changing them all to say "Members" for professional appearance (and since I am the only one editing I've been sneaking stuff like this in anyway :x )

Why is this page on the Wiki? I have no recollection of either of the members mentioned there (and I was semi-active at the time the event supposedly occurred), and a forum search of both the IPB and original phpBB forums shows no evidence of either member's existence, and I can't find a single hit for either when doing a search of the forums.

Also, I created a Style Guide. This definitely needs expansion, but it's something the Wiki should probably have.

Just wanted to point this out because I see this happening a lot:

Don't use = Title = for titles. Use == Title == instead. = Title = is for headers the same size as the article's title.

Even I admit a lot of these pages aren't very useful, but before we get too radical with the deletions, I'd like to see a real plan of what the new Wiki's structure will be. If this plan involves deleting everything except the tutorials and fangames, R II or Char should make a backup archive of the existing Wiki.

or you know
move the wiki to archive.wiki.mfgg.net like i did with the forums
(ps it's RII not R II)

here's an idea.

take fangames and tutorials and save them

next, delete the wiki completely. just scrap it.

would probably do you better good (some gooder) to rewrite most of the articles actually related to mfgg anyway.

also about this article:

Quote:
So what do you want me to do? One tag says it should stay due to history, one says it needs an expansion and MC LizardGuy says he's the only one to expand it... What does it have to do with MFGG history other than being an old fangame? And if I delete this, please explain why I should keep ANY fangame articles that may or may not have as much info than what's on the main site page for them?

In some ways that seems like a good idea, but if we delete everything, at least archive the old one to archive.wiki.mfgg.net or something. A lot of the best events and fads took place in the PPP and thus aren't recorded anywhere else.

I have to take note of what RII said, though, about archived wikis being less useful than archived forums. I don't see why we couldn't just delete the very worst articles and redesign the opening screen and such to put a bigger emphasis on fangames, tutorials, and help.

Also, keep Yoshi Gone MFGG. Definitely. It's already been expanded, and if we're going to delete fangames, what are we going to be keeping at all? There'd be very, very few articles left.

if i had personal shame i'd edit that MFGG Couples article

i just thought the YGMFGG article existed solely for the reason of it being the first fangame on MFGG (which is not the case, and surprisingly, BS made the article, i wonder why he thought that)

This is a little off-topic, but for the Acosplat.MID article, only the link to the MP3 still works. If anybody can supply a copy of the original MIDI, I'd be pretty happy!

Thanks a bunch. I went ahead and fixed the broken download link for the MIDI as well (although the article itself would probably be best merged into the Improv Game Contests page).

Speaking of broken links, it would be awesome if someone could add working links to the older Waligie games (including Wee Edickone, which is a dead link).

I've searched both of the old forums, and all the links I found weren't working.

I've gone ahead and updated my article due to it being very, very below standards, however, I've left the rewrite tag on it just in case it is still re-write worthy.

look at Biddy's article - yet he was still on MFGG there-after

Until today. It was high time - I (and a bunch of other people) had been nagging for that to happen for ages. This should increase interest in the Wiki significantly. Now is the time to add more pages that are actually useful and relevant to the fangaming/indie scene!
