Sorry, I'm a bit late with this one. To compensate, you'll have a day extra!

The Theme: Music Demake

lu9 wrote:
You should downgrade the music of any Mario game you like, ranging from
the Super Mario Bros. theme in an Atari style, to a Super Mario 3D World theme in SNES style!

TIPS:
-If creating an NES song, you should try the NES VST plugin, or FamTracker.
-If creating an SNES song, you should try the SNES soundfont, or C700 VST.
-If creating a Game Boy song, you can use my GB soundfont collection, or even better, LSDJ.

Theme Specific Rules:
-You have to sequence the music yourself, and not "steal" MIDIs.
-Since this is only Mario music demakes, you can't do a song in SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive style, for example.

Links:
NES:
NES VST
FamiTracker
DefleMask
SNES:
C700 VST
SNES Soundfont
GB:
LSDj Demo
Game Boy Soundfont Collection

Time limit: until Saturday, 4th October 2014
NO extensions! You can submit your entry as long as it's still October 4th anywhere on the planet, even if you yourself don't live in that timezone.

You really should provide links to all the plugins, soundfonts and so on.

Awesome, that gives everyone a good 9 months to get it done. I dunno if it's enough time.

Now this is interesting. Only that I've been dealing with a lot of Mario music demakes for almost four years now - however; I doubt any would make the cut since I actually used ModPlug Tracker to do them...

What's wrong with using a tracker?

Oh, nothing's wrong with using a tracker; the problem is adding the extension which really haven't attempted yet.

I do know this for certain: in terms of doing SNES music "demakes" (which I still call arrangements from what I've done so far for my "music gallery operations"; if you all are curious about that, please don't hesitate to PM me about it), the tracker software that's being used regardless needs to be set to eight channels maximum, because that's how many channels the SNES sound system had.

So, what qualifies as a "mario game" in this competition?

I have a question. Does it have to be exactly the same as the original material, or are we allowed to arrange it a bit?

Going to answer some questions, with my power as admin, but lu9 can correct me if I'm wrong:

DevSenpai wrote:

"any Mario game you like" sounds to me like any game that's related to the Mario series is allowed, so basically anything that we'd allow on the main site, including spin-offs like Mario Kart or the Paper Mario series etc.

I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed to change it a bit, so long as the source material is still clearly recognizable.

Post subject:  Re: Music Competition #3, 2014 | Music Demake

So smash bros or yoshi's island should be allowed, then? Cool

Post subject:  Re: Music Competition #3, 2014 | Music Demake

Yoshi's Island yes, but not Smash Bros., unless you go for only the Mario related music in Smash Bros., and then you wouldn't need to take it from Smash Bros. because Smash is already taking it from another Mario game, so you might as well take that.

Post subject:  Re: Music Competition #3, 2014 | Music Demake

but well, smash bros was obviously firstly based on the mario series, otherwise it wouldn't be called super smash bros.
so I guess the title screen music of that would be acceptable too

Damn! This took me a whole day to finish! I'm kinda exhausted!
But hey, I got an Entry :D

https://www.mediafire.com/?92kf22wlqnmp5vh

It's the theme of Super Mario 3D World in 8-bit style or so >.>
I also included the original track in case anyone wants to compare.
This my first try at such thing btw. I'm off to bed.

Why is everything bells? I think something went wrong.

I'll take a go at this. M&L Dream Team's Battle theme in a SNES style.

Even better: I'll use Advanced Mario Sequencer (The better version of Mario Paint Composer).

Something from Sunshine, still under progress (NSF file format):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/jin8hrujzm09k ... k-nova.nsf

Takes me forever to get the echo right, I might lower the triangle once I'm done (maybe the same if the current version sounds better)

MP3 version preview:

Also Slash, please test your file before uploading it. It sounds like clashing 8-bit bells from underworld that has been summoned by using audio to MIDI conversion. No offense.
