The Theme: The Super Mario World Theme This is something for the remixers among you, who like to have a melody to work with. Mit wrote: Make a song using the base SMW melody for a different trope. here're some examples from the game- the base overworld theme- the underground variation- the underwater variation- the athletic variation- or even the Bowser's castle version- to truly make a SMW piece, you're gonna need the soundfont, which you can find here! Advice: There are a ton of level themes that have not been explored in SMW itself. Think of the basics from the games: snow, desert, jungle, clouds, lava, etc. Also think of the more rare themes like clocks, space, beach etc. The level variety in Mario games is huge! And if that range isn't enough, make up your own! Mario works in pretty much any environment. Make up something that's completely unfitting even, like a war setting, or give it a dramatic spin. As long as the SMW melody can be found in it, anything goes. Advice: In the above examples you can see that the SMW melody is VERY versatile, and in some examples only very vaguely hinted at, e.g. in the Castle Theme. Use this observation to your advantage. Note: Using the above linked SMW soundfont is NOT required. Time limit: until Sunday, 1st of June 2014 NO extensions! You can submit your entry as long as it's still June 1st anywhere on the planet, even if you yourself don't live in that timezone. |

I made this sort-of "Yoshi Rodeo" country-like theme: (I guess this isn't even country asdfasdfsdf) :P (Also, it loops, here is the link so you can hear in a player that loops the music: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/xuv ... eo_smw.ogg) Yet, I still think I could make a better music... am I allowed to change the music in the middle of the competition? |

Like any other comp, you have until time runs out to refine, alter, or replace your submission. Nice track BTW. |

Great start, lu9! Didn't expect any submissions this early  And like Nite said, take your time refining! In fact, that's the procedure I'd recommend. Submit something, then update it. So if time runs out on you, you have at least some submission, which is better than none!

Silly comments like that when there are only one entrant are the kind of thing that make people not want to enter in the first place. Never call a competition before it has truly begun. |

Never call a competition before it has truly begun. I am sorry Kritter. I didn't want to ruin the fun of this competition at any time. I just realized what I wrote and edited my post. I am sure here are other nice music composers, but this one is already my favourite. I am not saying there can't be another musical mastermind that can top this. My apologies.  Btw, here is my remix :P It is a remix of the slightly different version of the main theme used in Marios Time Machine.
