Congratulations to Supernova for getting silver, and to everyone else who participated in the last music competition! It is an honour for me to win, and I am proud to present this.

EUROPEAN FOLK SONG CHALLENGE

Your task is this: pick a genre of European folk song, and either remix a video game track to fit into the genre, or compose your own song. The genre can be anything from a madrigal to flamenco to a freylekh, as long as it is not styled after classical academic music. That means you can make a tarantella, but not an operatic aria. If you are having trouble, you can ask me for a suggestion!

Due to them being in the Eurovision Song Contest, I will count Turkey and Israel as European for this challenge. (I will be impressed if somebody chooses a form originating from either of those countries.)

You have until APRIL 26th to complete your piece.

Good luck!

I'll see if I can't compose my own piece. Am I allowed to use piano? Also, is there a certain time quota I must reach?

You can use piano if the genre you choose permits it. There's no real time minimum or limit, but try to make it at least over a minute.

I have two ideas that I could give a shot... I actually have Italian music on audio cassette that I feel I could stylistically produce. Alternatively, I'm thinking of Scotland.

European folk music + VinnyVideo = ?

That can mean only one thing. If I have any music composition ability left in my soul, I must use this as a chance to compose a polka.

How are you fellows doing? The competition was supposed to end tomorrow, but...

MFGG is kind of notorious about letting its Music Comps drag on, but would you mind granting us another week or two? I've almost seized upon a workable musical idea.

I have ideas, but no music to show. Haven't had time to make any. :(

I might return when we get more closer to the summer (I might be more free by that time).

Oh hey I just looked at this thread. Maybe I'll get out my mandolin and make something folky soon.

I'll see if I can make something in a few days... I think I might be more free for the last five days or so.

I hope I captured the polka vibe sufficiently. I'll be honest with you: Because of some rather serious real-life issues, this is not the best day I've ever had. I suspect I could've done better on this composition if I had a clear mind. I hate being the only entrant here, and while I don't believe in giving competitions endless extensions, I'd be OK with extending this another day or two if anyone else is close to finishing something.

(Also, for those who peruse the metadata, Katie was a non-romantic friend of mine. This song is inspired by some corny lyrics I jotted down in a notebook a decade ago. I can explain further in case anyone actually cares.)

Thanks, Vinny.

Any other takers? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

The deadline's passed, and no one else is entering, so it seems that I win by default. It's a pity, since this was a good theme. I'll start the next competition later this week. I hope it'll get a better turnout.
